Armed Forces / finding his grave
« on: Wednesday 06 December 06 12:11 GMT (UK)  »
a pal on the great war forum is looking for the burial place of corporal thomas burke of the manchester regt,he was knocked down by a train while guarding the railway lines near balcombe, sussex on 12-6-15,hes been overlooked by the CWGC,his name will be added to the CWGC,but we cant find where he lies,he was from manchester but we dont know if hes buried there or in sussex, his grave may be overgrown but if its found, the CWGC will very likely erect an headstone for him,two burial sites close to where he died are, haywards heath western cemetery and balcombe churchyard, can you find him, thanks

World War One / combined knowledge
« on: Thursday 30 March 06 20:11 BST (UK)  »
for many of you folks who lost a relative in ww1 it can be a bit disappointing when you go on the CWGC and theres nothing but his name, rank, number etc,no personal details to help you, thats why its important to check the local papers in the area that he lived, sometimes it can save you endless hours of searching,if you dont live in that area then you can always ask a fellow rootschatter who does, and you can return the favour by doing checks in your local library, this site is coming on leaps and bounds in the last couple of months but it needs contacts near as many main libraries as possible,as an example of what can be found, heres a challenge to anyone who wants to have a go,picked at random,FIND ALL YOU CAN ABOUT THIS SOLDIER,civvie+military info, mack
