Free Photo Restoration & Date Old Photographs / photographing gravestones
« on: Monday 18 March 19 21:31 GMT (UK)  »
Not sure where to post so I am going to try here.  If it should be somewhere else please tell me.
EmyrBorth has just now , very kindly, given me instructions to find my ancestors grave stone
and a description " a slate gravestone with a lot of white lichen on - Ellen's grave".
I hope to be able to visit the cemetery before Easter.
Any hints about how to get reasonable photos of the gravestone would be very welcome.

Is this cemetery a municipal or a Church Cemetery ?
Is Dolbenmaen and Garn Dolbenmaen near to one another or are they two names for the same village?
Have the Memorial Inscriptions been published?

Free Photo Restoration & Date Old Photographs / John Pugh's gravestone
« on: Sunday 13 January 19 22:49 GMT (UK)  »
Please can someone out there work some majick to make the inscription clearer.
Could be in Tonypandy or Trealaw, a very large cemetery on a slope.  we did find the grave when we took my parents in law to South Wales in the 1970s.  At the time I had no interest in family history and did not bother to record the inscription.

The photo is of his two daughters on a much earlier visit there

Caernarvonshire / 1881 census for Bron y Nant Dwygyfylcki
« on: Sunday 04 March 18 17:26 GMT (UK)  »
I have here a 1893 bc showing "where born" as Bron Y Nant, Dwygyfylchi, Penmaenmawr County of Carnarvon.
Thought that it would be an easy task to find the 1891 census entry for Bron y Nant.  Hours later having drawn a blank with findmypast census search for address and trawling through the Penmaenmawr records, I am none the wiser.  Can anyone give me a nudge in the right direction please.
Thank you

Denbighshire / Advice please, Ivy cottage Denbigh
« on: Tuesday 08 August 17 10:49 BST (UK)  »
Whilst clearing their mother's home my nephews have found a book with the inscription
Miss Griffith, Ivy Cottage, Denbigh,  Jan 1st 1899.
Both my maternal and paternal families have Griffith as a surname but I had never heard of a connection with Denbigh.
How should I begin to solve this mystery?

Caernarvonshire / another Palfrey Rowlands
« on: Wednesday 05 April 17 17:13 BST (UK)  »
Up to now I have two Palfrey Rowlands.
senior  Palfrey, son of Thomas Rowlands and Mary Palfrey born 1765 Llangollen
junior   Palfrey  son of Palfrey Rowlands and Elizabeth ?, born around 1800 at Caernarvon.
Palfrey junior married Catherine Hughes at Llandwrog in 1830.
1851 census has the family at Llechylched Anglesey
Palffrey Rowlands    51
Cathrine Rowlands    49
Thomas Rowlands    10
James Porter Rowlands    5
Cathrine Rowlands    17
But checking GRO records for Rowlands children with mother's maiden name Hughes gave me another Palfrey Rowlands born 1844 Caernarvon reg district.
I can not find anything more regarding this Palfrey, have sent for his birth certificate.
I know that I am impatient and should wait until I receive the bc, but surely there is some informatio out there about him f I could find it.
Any help or suggestions welcome

Trying to find the death of Thomas or Mary I came across the baptism and burial of Mary Rowlands,
illegitimate daughter of Palfrey Rowlands, butcher of Llwynmawr in 1791 at Llansanffraid Glyn Ceiriog.  My ggggrandfther was a butcher, at Caernarvon.
Also at Llansanffraid Glyn Ceiriog  Mary 1776, daughterof Thomas Rowlands of Llwynmawr, shopkeeper by Mary his wife.
There is an Elizabeth there as well
I would like to think that the Thomas and Mary of Havodgynfawr and of Llwynmawr are the same but my knowledge of the geography of Denbighshire is lacking.
I would appreciate it if anyone with more local knowlede oud give an opinion.
