Hampshire & Isle of Wight / Henry James b. 1814 IOW
« on: Thursday 15 April 10 16:27 BST (UK)  »
I would like to identify my gg grandfather's parents. Henry James (1814 - 1886) is buried with his wife Jane Dyer (1814 - 1880) at the Ryde Cemetery. They were married on January 28 1838 at the Chapel of St Thomas IOW, when Henry stated that his father was named Barnes. Henry was a carpenter and lived in Ryde. I have found him in every census. Henry reported that he was from Newchurch but I have not found his baptism record.

At the time of the 1861 census Henry's aunt Jane Barkham was living with the James family. I presume this is Jane James who married William Barkham (1793 - 1839) on October 22 1818 in Newchurch. Perhaps this Jane James had a sister who was Henry's mother?

London & Middlesex Completed Lookup Requests / Mayzes families living in Battersea
« on: Saturday 13 December 08 16:58 GMT (UK)  »
Jonas Mayzes (1803 - 1876 Battersea) and his wife Mehitabel Unknown (1805 Suffolk - 1892 Battersea) had about 10 children. One of their descendants was Samuel James Mayzes born February 17 1879 in Battersea. I cannot find this person in the 1881 census, although there are three Mayzes families living on Currie Street in Battersea at that time.

:-\Where I am really confused is that later in life there appear to be two Samuel James Mayzes born in 1879. One married Minnie Jane Ball in 1901. Another married Amelia Excell in 1900. Both produced several children in the 20th century, so I do not believe that they are the same person.

I would like to establish the connections between Samuel James Mayzes to Jonas Mayzes. The various families arrived in Battersea via Essex.

Many Thanks,

Mick

Essex Lookup Requests / Census 1841 to 1871 NEWMAN
« on: Sunday 04 May 08 02:58 BST (UK)  »
Frederic Newman was born in about 1835 in Mount Bures Essex where he lived for at least the next 65 years. In 1855 he married Martha Smith. Frederic was a farmer. I am aware of seven children born starting with Gertrude in 1864, followed by Christopher in 1866. Were there other children born between 1856 and 1863?

Of most value would be the names of Frederic's parents.

Thanks,

Michael

Frederic Henry Newman was born in Hampstead in 1898. He appears in the 1901 census index as Frederick H Newman aged 2.

Later in life he went to Canada.

Nottinghamshire / Charles Dickinson - Nottingham
« on: Friday 28 October 05 21:21 BST (UK)  »
My ancestor Charles Dickinson was born in Radford, perhaps in 1835. There is an IGI entry for Charles Dickinson, son of Hannah Dickinson baptised on 16 Aug 1835 in Radford.

On October 12 1857 Charles married Amy Dickinson at St Nicholas, Nottingham.  Charles appears as Dickisson, and stated that his father was Edward Dickisson, cabinet maker.

On July 4 1858 their son William Dickinson was born in Basford. William became a carpenter. He married Belinda Sibley and they lived in the Hampton and Teddington area near London.

Charles was variously a lace dryer/dresser; a master pork butcher; a joiner; a furniture dealer; and a cabinet maker.

Amy died on August 16 1871. Charles married Ann Priscilla Jackson in 1873.  Ann died in 1891.

Any connections?

Wiltshire / COPE family from GREAT BEDWYN
« on: Tuesday 18 October 05 22:40 BST (UK)  »
Arthur COPE (1798 - 1879) married Jane JONES on February 23 1822 in Great Bedwyn. They had four children. Jane appears to have died before 1833. Arthur subsequently married Eliza HUNTLEY on September 30 1833 in Great Bedwyn. They had twelve children.

My ancestor is the youngest child from Arthur's first marriage, Mary Jane COPE born December 10 1826.

Any connections? What happened to Arthur's first wife?

Gloucestershire / SAGE family from BRISTOL
« on: Tuesday 18 October 05 22:30 BST (UK)  »
Joseph SAGE was born in about 1790 in Bristol. He was a shoe maker. Joseph died on March 31 1872.

Joseph married a woman named Frances (aka Fanny). She was born about 1777 in Bristol. She died on May 16 1872 aged 95.

Joseph and Frances had a son Joseph SAGE who was born about 1813 in Bristol. Joseph married Elizabeth BUTCHER from Cam on October 18 1846 in Bristol. This Joseph SAGE was also a shoe maker.

I am trying to identify Frances and when and where she married Joseph Sage.
