Australia / Boolburra Queensland.
« on: Thursday 26 October 23 16:02 BST (UK)  »
Hello.

I am looking for some information on John and Susan Pattel who are buried in Boolburra cemetery.
A photo appears on findagrave  showing the fact they died on the same day " accidentally drowned" in 1908.

The name Ricketts is added to the bio online but Susan's maiden name was Rickwood.
Can anyone please point me at a news clipping if there is one to find out what happened to them. They died aged 82 and 81 years.

Many thanks.

World War Two / WW2 Elephant Hut.
« on: Saturday 17 July 21 15:17 BST (UK)  »
Hi all.

I am reading through my grandfather's life history that he wrote over 30 years ago to glean some information for my father's funeral. I was looking for funny stories from my father's childhood and came across a piece of interest.
In 1940 my family moved from Deptford to Winchmore Hill near Amersham when my great Uncle Tom took over the Potters Arms in the village. Grandad joined the local home guard and he says "an elephant but was constructed in the pub grounds to hold an ammunition supply".

 Does that sound correct?

The Common Room / Grandad secret job?
« on: Monday 05 July 21 19:58 BST (UK)  »
Evening.

Really hard to know where to start...but sadly my father passed away on Friday and I've been going through various family papers going back years that I never knew existed.
One was a real surprise, it belongs to my grandfather  dad's dad.On the back of a solicitors receipt is a hand written notation. Dated 1953 it reads...if I'm correct.

  Reconnaissance & Information.
 Location of centres of damage
 Location of major fires
Conditions of major roads leading into area
Areas suspected of contamination and radioactivity
Whether heavy casualties
Exact location & extent of devastation
Extent of casualties

    Chief constable
    County chief Warren
    Head warden
    Post warden
    Senior warden
    Warden.

Would these be details issued to a member of the Civil Defence during the Cold War?
During WW2 grandad and his brother in law spent time in Winchmore Hill near Amersham. Uncle Tom had the Potters Arms pub in the village. Grandad was an air raid warden. They would cook at the pub for the soldiers camped in the woods nearby.

Am I going down the right track?

London and Middlesex / Naomi Oldridge nee Brees.
« on: Monday 26 October 20 16:26 GMT (UK)  »
Hello....

Looking at a small diversion from my main tree.

Naomi Brees married John Oldridge 9th August 1787.
Their daughter Elizabeth Flower Oldridge married the brother of my 5X great grandfather.

So can anyone help with Naomi's birth at all please.

Both appear at Whites Alley Breams Buildings Chancery Lane in 1792 during a case in which they had been robbed from their home which appears to be above a snuff shop that they own.

Any help would be great.......having a new kitchen fitted this week so need a distraction

  Thank you

Hello....

I'm over on the Lancashire board looking at Robert Bernard Keen. He was born in Aylesbury in first quarter 1880. Mothers maiden name Hewson.

Now on 6th Jan 1882 there is in Dallington a baptism for a Robert Bernard Keen and a Charles Vivian Keen also mmn Hewson.
The parents are listed as Frank and Polly. Roberts parents are Frank confirmed by marriage cert and Elizabeth by census.

If anyone has the baptism does it contains more details.

  Thank you     Tazzie

Bedfordshire Lookup Requests / Help in Harlington please.
« on: Saturday 02 May 20 21:11 BST (UK)  »
Hello all....

Well as we are all stuck at home I've gone off on a tangent with one of my lines.
I am trying to piece together the family of my maternal grandfathers half sisters and from their various marriages backwards.
I have John Tavaner who marries MASCILLA READ 11th December 1799 in Harlington.
A very unusual name.....but.....where does she come from? Any ideas or other spellings anyone can come up with would be a great help.
  Thanks for reading.

The Common Room / Help with a probate record.
« on: Friday 27 December 19 19:16 GMT (UK)  »
Hi all....

I'm trying to tie up some loose ends in our project on the local war memorial. I am looking for the death of Annie Cameron. Annie was born @1872 married to Hugh Cameron and with her family in Shenley Church End Buckinghamshire in 1901 & 1911 census. Hugh in 1939 still in Shenley now a widower.
There is a death in 1925  of Annie Cameron  ST George Hanover Square age 53 so born @ 1872.
I'm using Findmypast but cannot get a hit on a probate record. There is one in 1925 that appears on Ancestry site but I changed my sub to use the newspaper archive on FindMyPast.
Can anyone tell me what it says please?

Many thanks to all and in advance best wishes for the New Year.

Buckinghamshire / Help in Stewkley.
« on: Sunday 27 October 19 17:46 GMT (UK)  »
Hi.

My husband's family lived in Stewkley for many years. However we've been asked if there used to be a children's home or similar in the village possibly in Ivy Lane. Does anyone have any ideas please?
