Devon / WONNACOTT family Addiscott, South Tawton
« on: Monday 06 May 13 13:24 BST (UK)  »
John Wonnacott baptised 3 August 1828 in South Tawton, was the son of James and Elizabeth Wonnacott.  In 1841 there is a James and Elizabeth in Addiscott, he was a Carpenter aged 55.  I believe they were married in Dec 1809 in South Tawton and her maiden name was Crocker.  This couple also had a daughter Ann born in 1824 and son William born 1831.  I have John on all the censuses and I think he married Maria Pomeroy in 1849 (died 1861 Ermington) and Sarah Ann Marsh in 1868, Newton Abbott.

What I really want to know is where James came from and if anyone else is researching this particular family.  I know of the Wonnacott website.

United States of America / Hamilton death in Denver, Colorado?
« on: Saturday 22 September 12 14:45 BST (UK)  »
In the 1920 Census my Great Aunt Hilda Gladys Hamilton is living with her husband Harvey in McCook City, Willow Grove Precinct. By the 1930 Census he has moved to Herndon, Rawlins, Kansas but has remarried (1927) and is living with Helene and her daughter Evelyn. I have no idea what has happened to Hilda, presumably between 1920 and 1927 she has died. Can anyone suggest how I can find this out?  I have tried various sites online and googled but to no avail!

London & Middlesex Completed Lookup Requests / Charing Cross Road in 1891 COMPLETED
« on: Friday 12 February 10 09:03 GMT (UK)  »
Hello London experts,

I have lost a family in the 1891 Census and believe their address to be 40, Charing Cross Road.  I have found 39 in St Anne's Soho, obviously (?) 40 is on the other side of the road, before I trawl through the whole St Anne's set, would it be in the same parish or should I be looking elsewhere, like St Giles in the Fields or....??

I don't want a look up, just to know where to look!

TIA

Brian

Yorkshire (West Riding) Lookup Requests / Marriage 1832 Wath upon Dearne
« on: Thursday 09 April 09 09:25 BST (UK)  »
Hello,

Could some kind soul who is going into the Archives at some point check the banns for the marriage of William Utley (or Uttley) and Elizabeth Stanley who were married on 23 Jan 1832 in Wath.  I would like to confirm details of parents from the banns register.

Thanks in anticipation,

Brian (down South!)

Yorkshire (West Riding) / Uttley Barnsley/Thorpe Hesley
« on: Wednesday 25 March 09 17:56 GMT (UK)  »
Looking at branches on my tree I find the Stacey family marrying into the Ut(t)leys.

From 1871 onwards they appear in the census as James Uttley and Sarah and in the 1901 Sarah's daughter is listed as Sarah Ann Stacey Uttley stepdaughter which seems to be the clincher.  James was born in Barnsley in 1835, and I imagine that he is the son of William and Elizabeth.

Sarah Stacey's sister Mary Ann married George Utley born in 1838 in Barnsley and they too lived in Thorpe Hesley from 1861, Sarah moving to Wooldale when she was widowed.

Is anyone interested in this family?  I would really like to know if James and George were in fact brothers as in the 1851 census James does have a brother George.

Obviously I need marriage references and have ordered George and Mary Ann's  - but I am impatient!!

Any help gratefully received.

Herts Completed Lookup Requests / CHILDS Potters Bar/South Mimms
« on: Thursday 16 October 08 18:14 BST (UK)  »
I am not sure where the baptismal records of Richard Childs would be found.  I have found him on the Censuses as follows:

Census 1841 HO107/654/18/25/7 Ganwick Corner South Mimms HRT 15 Ag lab
Census 1851 HO107/1712/32/11/49 Northaw HRT 25 Ag labourer at sisters
Census 1861 RG9/996/144/3/7 Fairfield Lane Biggleswade BDF 35 Gardener
Census 1871 RG10/1332/128/55/265 Lancaster Rd East Barnet HRT 45 Gardener

So it would appear that his birth was around 1826.  He was the son of Thomas and Mary in the 1841 Census.

Can anyone help please?

Suffolk Lookup Requests / COLLETT Wilby
« on: Tuesday 14 October 08 17:51 BST (UK)  »
I have found John Collett on the Census as follows:
Census 1841 HO107/1026/10/4/2 Wilby SFK 25 M.S.
Census 1851 HO107/1796/336/26/117 Cole Street Wilby SFK 37 Agricultural labourer
Census 1861 RG9/1153/32/1/3 Wilby SFK 44 Ag lab
Census 1871 RG10/1741/64/3/15 Wilby SFK 56 Ag lab
Census 1881 RG11/185969/6/13 Cole Street Wiby SFK WIDWR 66 Ag lab

It would seem therefore that he was born about 1814/15 in Wilby.  Has anyone access to the records that would prove/disprove this please?
