Family History Beginners Board / Edward Davis, Bristol/West harp tree/Clutton/Somerset

i am looking for more information of my great grandfather x3 Edward Davis. The only record I have for him is his marriage certificate. It does not list his age but "of age" he was working as a miller at the time and was said to be living in west Harptree and was a widow. His father’s name was also Edward and he was listed as a sawyer. The marriage is listed as the 10th and 11th of august 1843 at st John the Baptist church, Bristol. He married Matilda Gough; her father’s name was Samuel.

I cannot find Edward on any census record and by the next census he is missing and assumed dead. . Matilda had a child Alfred Thomas Davis on 24th June 1844, living in upper Easton, Bristol. The most intriguing of the information I have since discovered though Alfred was christened at st Marys west Harptree, on 8th July 1844 and was also christened in temple, bristol on 1st June 1845 both have the same birth date so we can rule out the childs death and subsequent naming of the next child with the same name (please see attached.

I would like to know when Edward died and if any more information about Edwards previous marriage/life and death and of Edward senior.

Thank you for your time

Ben Davis
