Lancashire / Shaw Brewing Family Of Leigh And Dukinfield
« on: Saturday 23 January 21 14:04 GMT (UK)  »
Please find attached the 'head' of a family tree which contains gaps that I'm trying to fill. Apologies for the non-standard format but it works for me. Please note that James (jnr) had two wives, 1. Emma and 2. Harriet, the latter herself later remarrying to Thomas Hannam. Hope you can help.

Lancashire / Historic Building Ownership Details
« on: Tuesday 12 January 21 15:06 GMT (UK)  »
Am trying to uncover building ownership details (1880-1900) for the Crown Brewery, Kirkhall Lane, Atherton, Lancashire. Part way through this 20 year period, the relevant part of Kirkhall Lane was renamed Leigh Road and due to a boundary change, the premises became situated in Leigh as opposed to Atherton. When the Brewery closed around 1899 it eventually became the Duva Bakery and was subsequently demolished around 1980.

A friend subscribes directly to the BNA and I have access to it through Find My Past. Is anyone else struggling with the search function? Choose an article by random then try re-finding it using various search terms and filters! My mate sent me a transcript of a BNA article that he thought would be of interest to me. He noted the article source and date and is sure that is correct, but neither of us can re-find the original BNA article!

Lancashire / Horrocks Family Of Leigh
« on: Monday 17 August 20 11:49 BST (UK)  »
William Horrocks was born in the township of Bedford in the Parish of Leigh, Lancashire, on 16 September 1847.

I've traced census data for him for 1871, 1901 and 1911. This is using Find My Past. I need similar data for 1861, 1881 and 1891. I've had this data previously so I know it exists but for whatever reason I can't re-find it! It may previously have been found using Ancestry but I don't currently subscribe to that service.

Would welcome some help on this.

Lancashire / Lecomber & Needham
« on: Tuesday 16 June 20 16:51 BST (UK)  »
Elizabeth Needham was born in c.1901 in Chorlton of parents Frances Jane (?) and John William Needham.

Elizabeth Needham married William Eric Lecomber in Chorlton in 2Q 1920.

Elizabeth Needham and William Eric Lecomber had a child, Margaret Frances Lecomber, in Chorlton on 16 April 1921.

I'm looking to discover an accurate marriage date for Elizabeth Needham married William Eric Lecomber and to discover whether the couple separated or divorced within a few years of getting married. Would also like to discover Frances Jane's as born surname.

Lancashire / Mr. Calcutt (Brewer)
« on: Wednesday 22 April 20 20:37 BST (UK)  »
Leigh (Lancs) used to boast six breweries. One was built in 1895 (Lilford Brewery) by a Joseph Jackson (1844-1896) who originated from Oswestry, Salop.. In his 20's he was a farmer but it seems he also got into brewing. He married and moved to the "Cross Foxes" hotel (c/w 3/4 brewery) in Flint and thence to the "Lilford" hotel in Leigh around 1884 where he built the similarly named brewery in 1895. In the local newspaper announcing the completion of the new Leigh brewery, the brewer was named as Mr. Calcutt.

It may be a long shot, but I'm trying to find out more about the brewer.

The attached screen shot of a census record seems to read, Oswestry Road.......and then? I'm hoping  that someone familiar with the area might be able to identify the full entry.
