Perthshire / Trinity College Glenalmond
« on: Sunday 09 February 20 20:55 GMT (UK)  »
Evening all. Does anyone have any knowledge of Trinity College Glenalmond, between 1900 and 1920? We're trying to solve the back story of Elizabeth Hyslop, and her mother, also Elizabeth Hyslop, who was my mother-in-law's mother and grandmother, who, according to family stories, had some connection to the college around that time. Pretty sure she didn't study there but may have been employed there. Anybody know if there are any staff records anywhere?

Lanarkshire / Kinning Park burials
« on: Monday 19 February 18 11:58 GMT (UK)  »
I should probably know this, as I'm from this area, but where would the people of Kinning Park have been buried? There isn't a cemetery there and the only ones I could consider close enough are Craigton or the Southern Necropolis, and even they are both a bit far away.

Dumfriesshire / MI lookup Dumfries
« on: Wednesday 24 January 18 14:25 GMT (UK)  »
Does anyone have access to the MIs for Dumfries cemeteries? I'm looking for the gravestone inscription (if he had one) for Thomas Mills, died 27 July 1895 in 18 St Michael St, Dumfries. Don't know what cemetery he would be in. Hoping it may have a note of his parent's names. No parents noted on his death certificate but a previous marriage certificate has them as James Mills and Elizabeth (Betty) Turnbull, although I'm getting hints that his name may be slightly different to his fathers. His dad could be a Mil or Miln or Milne. He was born in Ancrum, Roxburghshire anytime between 1825 and 1830 depending on what census you look at but I can't find a birth certificate for him. Hoping to find another piece of the puzzle.

Lanarkshire / Railway Death
« on: Friday 08 December 17 09:48 GMT (UK)  »
Looking to see if there's more information available regarding a death by being run over by a train in Glasgow in 1916. I've got the death certificate which says "registered on the information by procurator fiscal". Does the PF make reports public after a period of time? I can also only find 1 newspaper article relating to this, in the Scotsman no less. Cant find anything mentioned in any of the Glasgow papers.

James Dallas, D 30/11/1916

Ireland / Missing Surname
« on: Wednesday 04 October 17 10:39 BST (UK)  »
Morning all. First time dipping my toe into Ireland for the first time and I'm stumped straight away. My gt gt grandfather, James Young Dallas, or James Dallas, according to all his childrens (all born in Scotland) birth certificates say he married Margaret Deans in Coleraine 25th April 1870. Looking this up on the nidirect site on that date James Young married Margaret Deen. Her name changes spelling slightly over time but he seems to have gained a surname. His father on the wed cert is John Young, stone mason, on his death cert his father is now John Dallas, mason. I'm sure it's the right marriage certificate but surely there's no reason to miss a surname off a marriage cert or do you reckon he took a new surname after moving to Scotland?

Dumfriesshire / Nicholas / Nicol Mills
« on: Tuesday 18 November 14 13:19 GMT (UK)  »
Hi folks, I've been told by 2 separate members of my family of a great uncle of mine who drowned in the river Nith around 1952. I've been hammering scotlandspeople all morning and getting nowhere, cant find any names that even come close to his. Is there any newspaper archives available for the Dumfries area available?

Would anybody be able to help me locate any information/pictures of the Tower Hotel, 14 Tower Street Selkirk? My great great grandfather was the innkeeper there according to the 1871 census but Google isnt finding anything for me on this occasion.

Thanks in advance.
