World War One / HMS King Edward VII
« on: Sunday 12 January 14 13:02 GMT (UK)  »
Hi to all

I have just come across an old postcard of men loading ammunition on board HMS King Edward VII in an old family photo album.
I am looking for the crew list / records for people who served on board from 1905 to 1916 when she sank.
The surnames i am intrested in is Fairhead or Strotton. I know one of my family Thomas William Strotton died on HMS Bulwark in 1914.
Forces war records do not list HMS King Edward VII.

has anybody got any ideas as to where i need to start looking? Any help or pointer will be greatly appreciated.

Many thanks

Steve

Family History Beginners Board / Children of JAMES EDWARD FAIRHEAD
« on: Tuesday 17 December 13 09:00 GMT (UK)  »
Hi to all
I need some help tracing one of JAMES EDWARD FAIRHEADS children. From the 1911 census you will find that he and his wife ELIZA HARPER had 4 children 3 alive and 1 died before the 1911 census. I have the following children ARNOLD MAJOR FAIRHEAD born Oct - Dec 1879 in Weybread Suffolk. GEORGE EDWARD FAIRHEAD born 6 April 1882 in Wortwell Suffolk. and BEATRICE LOUISA FAIRHEAD born 13 May 1887 in Wangford Suffolk. The unknown FAIRHEAD does not appear on any census records so I suspect that the unknown fairhead died as a infant or a child.
If anyone has any info on the unknown Fairhead or the birth / baptism of ARNOLD MAJOR FAIRHEAD it would be greatly appreciated.

Many thanks for reading this

I am looking for the census record for 1841 for George Haslam born about 1775 in Crich. I have found out so far that its as follows
PRO H0107  civil parish Crich, Sub district Ripley, Reg District Belper.
I am also trying to find what maybe his son George Haslam born 1814 and baptised 1st Jan 1815 in Crich. on the 1841 census. I suspect they are both on the same census.
I cannot find it on Ancestry.

Also has anyone got a copy of George Haslam born 1815 wedding cert. to Ann Maycock born 1827 on 22 Oct 1848 in Duffield/ Belper.

Armed Forces / Fred Haslam REME
« on: Sunday 11 November 12 22:38 GMT (UK)  »
Hi to all

I am doing my family tree and im trying to trace Fred Haslam Born 1909 in Codnor. he is know to have joined the army REME. it is thought that he served in Kenya between 1952 - 1960 in the Maumau uprising.

I know alot of my family come from the Codnor area. I have found on this site a reference to Kate Buntin who had a fish and chip shop. In my family I have a Joseph Haslam (born 1887) who married an Elizabeth Mabel Ratcliffe in 1908. Elizabeth Mabel Ratcliffle (born 1891) she had a brother  Ernest William Ratcliffe who was killed at sea on HMS Lovain in 1918. Elizabeth Mabel Ratcliffes mother was Hannah Ratcliffe. Hannah I believe was married to someone called Ratcliffle (I dont know his first name or when they where married). Hannah then married a Thomas Palryeman and lived in Codnor gate in 1901.

I have been talking with my Aunt and she can remember that her Uncle ( Fred Haslam born 1909) use to peel chips and pull a cart with a steel drum full of oil  into the market place every Saturday. She can also remember them helping out the miners during the 1926 strike feeding them in the market. She believes that Elizabeth Mabel Ratcliffe may have lived, worked or was adopted by someone called Buntin who had something to do with chips. I know Elizabeth Mabel Haslam was living in Parkins Yard in 1918. All my family know hers as Mabel and she did not use her first name. Has anyone got any info that may help me fill in any parts.

Many thanks for reading this

Steve.

Derbyshire / william haslam
« on: Sunday 02 September 12 12:39 BST (UK)  »
i am looking for any information on the birth / baptism of william haslam born William Haslam / Hazlam

Born: - 1722   Alfreton, Derbyshire ??????? (Cannot find any proof that this is the correct date of birth. This is what someone else has posted but they cannot prove this either.
Baptised: - .???????
Married: - Mary Baker: - she was born 1718 in Cubley and baptised 19 Sept 1718    in Cubley. They married on 22 June 1743 in Crich, Derbyshire.
Died: - ?????
Buried:-????

Father’s alleged name: - Benjamin Haslom (born 1700 in Alfreton Pentrich) I have found Benjamin’s baptism 1 March 1700 in Pentrich. Benjamin’s parents are Thomas Haslem and Mary Thompson. Mothers alleged name Grace Brown (born 1704 in Duffield) she did marry Benjamin Haslam on 7 April 1727 at St Werburghs Derby.

I cannot find any proof of birth for William with his parents being Benjamin and Grace. This is what other people have posted but they cannot prove this either. Has anyone have any information that may help?

My train of thought as it stands on the information that someone has come up with:-

When Benjamin was born in 1700 this would mean his son William was born when Benjamin was 22 years old and his wife Grace was 18 years old which seems ok. The thing that seems a bit strange or wrong is they got married in 1727 which makes William 5 years old when they got married. Also I cannot find any evidence of the relationship between Benjamin, Grace and William. I cannot find anything to support William being born in 1722 in the area of Alfreton. I do have 3 children of Benjamin they are as follows:- Elizabeth Baptised 9 June 1728 in Alfreton
,Mary Baptised 25 Oct 1729 in Alfreton,Thomas Baptised 7 Oct 1732 in Alfreton
