My great grandfather attended this school in the 1880’s/90’s & I wondered if any school records survived anywhere from around that time.  Thanks.

Devon Lookup Requests / Exeter birth or baptism - Traynor
« on: Sunday 30 July 23 12:19 BST (UK)  »
Looking for the birth/baptism of James Traynor.

The records I have found give a variety of dates but he consistently gives place of birth as Exeter & he did live in Torquay for some time, but also moved around the country a lot.  I do not know where he died.  Unfortunately, judging by what else I have found, POB as Exeter may prove to be a fabrication but it’s all I have to go on at present.

Per marriage certificate (Jan 1851, Salisbury) DOB 1831, father John Traynor (sailmaker)
Per 1861 census, DOB 1833
Per 1871 census, DOB 1833
Per 1891 census, DOB 1840

He was Catholic but the RC churches in Exeter seem to have been established after his DOB so I don’t know where to check for possible baptismal records & too early for FreeBMD.

Thanks for looking.
(Also thanks again to those who previously helped me locate his children)

Devon / Traynor - possible Catholic Baptisms - Torquay area
« on: Saturday 22 July 23 14:57 BST (UK)  »
Searching for possible Catholic baptisms in the Torquay area.

Children of James Traynor & Caroline Preston Swindells:
Augustus 1860
Mary Eugenie 1867
Bernard Joseph 1869
Frances Augusta 1871

The births were registered at Newton Abbot but place of birth & residence at the time was Torquay.
This family has a very interesting (?🤣) history is constantly on the move with all censuses having a variety of names, dates & places of birth so there are many inconsistencies.  James & Caroline were married in Salisbury in 1851 but in the Register Office.  However, their eldest daughter was married in a Catholic Church & I have accounts that at least one of their other children had a Catholic education.  Also James Traynor is probably originally of Irish descent, so possibly Catholic by birth (although I cannot find a birth record).  His place of birth is listed on censuses as Exeter, varying from 1831 to 1840.  Confirmation of his birth details would be great but it is completely possible that Exeter was not really the place.

I would imagine there was not a huge Catholic community in the south west at the time so it is possible that they were not baptised in Devon at all - possibly later on elsewhere or not at all.

Any pointers gratefully considered!

US Lookup Requests / Traynor/Jordan marriage - Maine
« on: Thursday 06 July 23 12:17 BST (UK)  »
I have found on Family Search the record of the following marriage:

John Traynor (1857-1884) to Cora A Jordan (1858-1934) in Georgetown, Sagadahoc, Maine, 27th Sept 1882.

Is it possible to view a copy of the actual marriage certificate anywhere as I am hoping it contains information on the groom’s father & also confirmation of the groom’s place of birth (possibly Bristol, England) & profession.

Thanks in advance for either a look-up or advice on how to find it myself.

Graveyards and Gravestones / Burial Tooting Cemetery 1921
« on: Tuesday 16 May 23 10:24 BST (UK)  »
I have a press cutting dated 20 Jan 1921 thanking people for their good wishes following the death of two daughters of Thomas Traynor (aka medley Barrett).  At first I thought they must have died together p perhaps in an accident or something p but they died in different places.  They are Violet Caroline Matthews nee Traynor, b 28 Mar 1986, Southwark, d Lambeth and Dora Constance Traynor, b 3 Dec 1897, d Swindon.  It says “they were buried together at Tooting Cemetery on Thursday”.  I don’t know if this means in the same grave or just at the same time.  Can find nothing on Find a Grave for any of the three cemeteries listed in Tooting.  Any suggestions please?
Thank you.

US Lookup Requests / Thomas Offley Traynor b 1872
« on: Sunday 14 May 23 10:49 BST (UK)  »
Can anyone please help with the birth record for Thomas Offley Traynor? I believe he was born in Boston, Massachusetts in Sept 1872 to parents William Lawrence Traynor & Elizabeth Offley Traynor, natives of Manchester, England.  I believe a sibling - Lizzie Traynor - was also born in the States in 1874.  By 1876 the family had returned to England.  At that time, would being born in the USA confer automatic citizenship?
Thanks for your help.

I am hoping to find baptismal records for the Traynor children, one of whom was my great grandfather, in the hope of discovering who their sponsors/god-parents were, which might suggest other family members.  The family was Catholic (or at least dad was & the children were raised as Catholic) & lived in the Holy Trinity/Sculcoates area of Hull.  I have all the census details for the family.
The info I have is as follows: Francis Traynor (b c 1836 Ireland, d 1896 Hull) married Rebecca Longfield (b 1843 Hull - d 1942 Hull) 1866 Sculcoates.
Children : Annie Elizabeth (1867-1943); Mary (2 Feb 1868-1902); William Bernard (31 Dec 1870-1954); Alice Longfield (1873-1875); Joseph Robert (Jan 1875-1877); Ada Denton (16 Jul 1877-1960); Robert Longfield (16 Feb 1880-1933); John Longfield (Oct 1882-1956).
The ideal scenario would be that one of the sponsors is a Traynor & thus a relative of Francis but I suspect he came alone from Ireland to England so am not very hopeful.  Worth a try!
Thank you in advance to anyone able to help.

In a bid to find information about my g/g.father's family, I started an Ancestor Project on Gedmatch for Tr'n'rs of all spellings (my mother was a Traynor).  Unfortunately I am none the wiser despite some distant matches.  However, there are now 180+ kits included so if you are a Tr'n'r descendant with an autosomal DNA test, please consider joining.  It could help you, me & lots of others. :)
