Ireland / Ann CESNAN
« on: Saturday 15 March 14 04:05 GMT (UK)  »
I have been looking for my 2 x gt.grandmother Ann nee CESNAN for quite a few years.  Ann married Owen MCLOUGHLIN & by 1849 they were in Chorley, Lancashire where their last child Bridget was born.  On all the UK Census except from memory the 1871 all they put was born Ireland (typical) but my gt. grandfather Michael had on one census put Sligo.  CESNAN seems to be an uncommon name & a very elusive one - it appeared on Bridget's baptism as being her mother's maiden name but even taking into account the accent I can't work out what is might be instead.  Any help will be appreciated.
Cheers,
Anita.

Is it possible to identify what regiment etc this would be - my father is bottom left & he was born in Blackburn, Lancs & worked as a firebeater in a Cotton Mill so I don't think he would move far away from home at that stage.

Sligo / Surname: CESNAN
« on: Thursday 26 September 13 01:15 BST (UK)  »
My 2 x gt grandmother's maiden name CESNAN as written down at the baptism of her daughter Bridget in Chorley, Lancashire in 1851.   Ann married Owen McLOUGHLIN in Ireland & arrived in Lancashire prior to Bridget's birth - 4 other children born Ireland - Michael abt 1844 (my gt.grandfather), Peter abt 1846, Thomas abt 1847 & Hannah abt 1849.   My problem is that the only record I can find for a CESNAN is a John in the Griffiths Valuations in Sligo where my gt.grandfather stated on a census that was where he was born.  Birth dates for Ann & Owen are between 1811 & 1817 in Ireland depending on the census - not much help but any ideas would be appreciated.
