Lincolnshire / Millin to Miller
« on: Sunday 24 July 05 18:54 BST (UK)  »
Hi all my 5 times gt grandfather is listed in 1851 census in Croft as Richard Miller aged 82 born in Skegness.
The only baptism in Skegness around the calculated birth year is for a Richard Millins son of Richard and Mary
In subsequent years more Millin(s) are baptsed to same parents, suddenly the name then changes to Miller.

I am 99% certain that I am dealing with the same family but would like some opinions as to whether Millin may become Miller for some unknown reason.

thanks
steve

Hi all my gt grandfather served in KOYLI as a private during ww1 in November 1914 he was captured. Later on in war he escaped but was recaptured.

my question is on his 1914 Star medal he was awarded a Rose & Clasp could this be for his escape?

The Common Room / Poor Law Apprenticeship Indenture
« on: Tuesday 19 July 05 19:02 BST (UK)  »
Hi all my 5 times gt grandfather was apprenticed out by the poor law as a carpenter in 1790 this was for a term of 3 years
in 1790 he would have been 21 and as far as I am aware apprenticeships ended at age of 24 though I may be wrong
my question: is the age of 21 a common onr for apprentices?
all the best
steve
