London and Middlesex / Patrick Hayes Battersea
« on: Monday 07 January 13 17:04 GMT (UK)  »
Hi folks I m looking for the death of a Patrick Hayes who appears in Battersea in 1920 Electoral register at Culvert Rd Battersea living with his sister Lena Short and husband Victor. Patrick had just come over from Murroe Co Limerick where he and Lena were born. Patrick was born in 1892. It appears he married Elsie May Mark in 1921 and they appear at various addresses in Battersea Wandsworth on the Electoral registers up until 1950 when Patrick disappears. I assume he died here at 58yrs as family at home in Ireland say he never returned after leaving, he got married and he died relatively young. It was his sister Lena who wrote home saying he had died and Lena died in 1960. Patrick had no contact with family at home after he left. If he died in 1950 he would have been 58 which i suppose people may class as relatively young but i can find no trace of his death anywhere? His full name was Patrick Joseph Hayes and a few Patrick J Hayes s died in the 60s making them too old and info on Probate does not fit? Am i missing something or is it possible his birth was not registered? His wife Elsie May stayed local after his disappearance so it seems they didn t move away.
Any help from anyone much appreciated!

Surrey / Short/Hayes marriage
« on: Monday 07 January 13 16:26 GMT (UK)  »
Hi, i m trying to find the marriage between Victor Short and Lena Hayes abt 1908 living in Epsom Surrey in the 1911 census? Any info on the Shorts of Sutton Surrey would be gratefully appreciated too! I have a good bit but cant seem to pin down this marriage. I m living in Eire now but was actually born in St Heliers hospital Sutton in 1965! Lena Hayes was my mothers Aunt although she had passed on by the time we landed there!

The Common Room / Short and Hayes
« on: Friday 28 December 12 19:20 GMT (UK)  »
Hi folks is there anybody out there who could trace where these ancestors of mine ended up? In the 1920 London Electors list for Wandsworth Battersea London living at 37 Culvert Rd was Patrick Hayes b1892 his sister Lena Short b1886 and her husband Victor Short b1885. Patrick and Lena were born in Murroe Co Limerick Ireland and Patrick was still there for the 1911 census although Lena and Victor appear in Epsom Surrey in 1911 English census. Patrick apparently married in England and died fairly young and had no children but i know no more of him. He did not return to Ireland and his wife may have been called Martha or Matilda. The Shorts had a few children which we know of but they appear to have left London after 1922 or at least i cannot find them in the electors lists. Lena too did not return to Ireland. I ve tried as far as i can to find these ancestors and i m just hoping there s someone better than me out there who might throw some light on it?
Lena and Patrick are my mothers Aunt and Uncle.
Yours in anticipation!

Family History Beginners Board / Naming after the Grandparents
« on: Saturday 15 December 12 12:22 GMT (UK)  »
As is the norm in Ireland my ancestors were named after their Grandparents but there is a problem i m looking for help with? On my mothers side her Great Grandparents were John and Mary Hayes and Elizabeth and Michael Fitzgerald. John Hayes son was also John Hayes and he Married Ellen Fitzgerald the daughter of Michael and Elizabeth. The first four children of this marriage were Elizabeth 1873, John 1875, Mary 1877 and Michael 1881 which all makes sense given the Grandparents? However we have found out now there was a James born in 1879 who died which kind of leaves us asking why were they calling this child James ahead of Michael? The next child that was born after Michael and this time lived was again called James in 1884.
Any ideas on this?
