Ancestral Family Tree DNA Testing / Chromosomes
« on: Wednesday 15 February 23 13:02 GMT (UK)  »

Hope somebody can help to clarify.    I have a 4th-6th cousin who has discovered on Gedmatch that he and I share two chromosomes from my maternal side of the family.   He has added them together  together and says that he is now a closer cousin than first thought.  Is he right?

Secondly,  due to this new development he says that he is descended from my other great grandparents.  I have always thought that inheritance of chromosomes from parents is random and therefore we have inherited a chromosome that other cousins have not but from the same ancestors. Am I correct?

        Thanks

Glamorganshire Lookup Requests / A Lookup for a marriage…
« on: Thursday 02 June 22 20:58 BST (UK)  »
Henry Williams 1840-1902 was born in Eglwysilan. He married a Mary 1934-1912.   I plus a few other cousins cannot find a record of a marriage on Ancestry nor free reg.
Somehow we all have differing maiden names for Mary, how goodness knows  ::).  I have just Mary,  others offer Davies, George, Thomas and Williams.

Please can you solve this puzzle we would all be grateful
Regards

Glamorganshire / 7-8 Graig Terrace, Pontypridd. What was it’s purpose!
« on: Monday 30 May 22 23:20 BST (UK)  »
On the 1911, census I have two family members living here.  There are 30 people of all ages and families at this address with no occupations listed.  My family members are the youngest and oldest of a family, where the mother had remarried and is living with her new husband in another part of Pontypridd.

I know it is not the workhouse or infirmary buildings so could it be an annexe ?   It’s not a children’s home as some inhabitants are over 60.  Neither a ‘doss’ house or it would have occupations.

Has anybody any suggestions or knowledge of it’s purpose.
Thanks
Suzanne

Family History Beginners Board / Family on my tree but cannot find the link
« on: Friday 13 May 22 15:43 BST (UK)  »
Please can you help.   I have a family on my tree who I can find on tree search but cannot find the link to any family on my tree.  I Know I would not have them unless they were my ancestors.

Is there a way on Ancestry to find out who they belong to without researching all my maternal family.

   Thank You

Please can somebody point me in the right direction.  I have this week on Ancestry two new DNA matches.  Both are reported as belonging to both sides,  I assume that means my mother and father were belonging, this is a complete surprise and I would obviously like to research this.
One is 62cm 1% shared the other is 25cms 1% shared. Neither have DNA matches with my Paternal line but match with my maternal DNA matches.  Ancestry say we are 4th-6th cousins. Neither match have carried out any significant research so their trees are not much help, one does have his 3xgg grandparents as the same as mine on the paternal line.  I have also messaged both but received no replies, which is sad.

My tree is very large and up to this moment I have not found any correlation with the two families.

Please can you advise me as to where to start on this mammoth task.

   Thanks
  Suzanne

« on: Wednesday 02 February 22 21:14 GMT (UK)  »

I have a match with a cousin on both Ancestry and Gedmatch. Can somebody explain why there is a difference in cm results. Ancestry gives us a
29cm Gedmatch on the one to many says 44.1 cm largest 18.3 smallest 4.7.

We cannot at the moment find a common ancestor so with these results can somebody tell me what is our relationship

    Thank you

Ancestral Family Tree DNA Testing / Help and advice please
« on: Friday 21 January 22 10:14 GMT (UK)  »
Checking my shared matches for my maternal 2xgreat grandparents, I have 12 Matches.  11 of these  share the common ancestor of my maternal 2xgreatgrandparents.  the 12th match has a  common ancestor as my  paternal 4xgreatgrandparents, Ancestry says he is a 4th-6th cousin, 25cms 1% shared DNA.  I understand that way back there has been a marriage/child to link both as both families lived in the same area.   I need your help/advice on how to research this as I have never encountered this situation before.

    Thanks

Glamorganshire Lookup Requests / Goppa Cottage, Duffryn, Rhydyfelin, Pontypridd
« on: Saturday 01 January 22 13:30 GMT (UK)  »
Please will you look up the electoral registers/rolls for the above address for 1962 or there about. I have tried with no result.
My reason for asking, my great uncle made a model of a canal barge which is on display at Swansea Maritime Museum. The curator has informed another cousin that it was donated by his daughter in law a Mrs Richard Williams Junior, widow who lived at this address in 1962. I have on my tree she died ten years before.
Finding out the occupant of this address at this time will see whether my research is correct or not.

Thank you and Happy New Year to all
Suzanne
