Essex Completed Lookup Requests / GREEN - Chelmsford
« on: Friday 01 June 07 13:57 BST (UK)  »
I'm looking for a Philip Green, in or around Chelmsford.
According to his daughters marriage certificate he was a farmer.

Phoebe Green was born in Chelmsford about 1813.
She married John Rixon, a Coachman in 22 Oct 1837 in St Martin in the Fields, Middlesex.
There's no sign of Philip on the 1841 census but I did find a Sarah Green, aged 60, Laundress and Philip Green aged 20, Male Servant, in Springfield near Chelmsford. This could be his widow. There seem to be quite a few Green's in Chelmsford but nothing to point me in the right direction.
Has anyone access to these parish records?

Denbighshire / Bryn Sguboriau, Llanelidan
« on: Monday 05 February 07 11:50 GMT (UK)  »
Hi,
I was hoping someone might have come across this house in Llanelidan?

I've done a quick google and searched the map on http://www.old-maps.co.uk/ but can't find anything.

Bryn Sguboriau was noted at the birthplace of my great-grandmother in 1886. Her mother was working as a Farmers Servanr according to the certificate so she may have been living and working there.

Thanks,
Tan.

Merionethshire / End of Patronymic naming - children taking different surnames?
« on: Friday 03 November 06 09:44 GMT (UK)  »
I was just wondering if this was common...

Moses was born 1798 in Trawsfynydd to a Thomas Hugh and Margaret (Jones)
On the Bishops Transcripts it does not record surnames for the children, just says "son of..." or "daughter of..."

I have Moses down on censuses as Hughes but the only marriage in the right time and place I can find is for a Moses Thomas, the wifes name also matches.

I have read that wives often did not take their husbands name back then and were known as for example, Margaret the wife of Thomas Hugh or simply Margaret Jones.

I have found a Margaret Jones on the 1841 census along with a Joseph Thomas who I believe is her son.
Elsewhere I have also found a John Pugh who might possibly be another son...

Has anyone any experience of this?
I would want to jump to incorrect conclusions.
Thanks,
Tan.

Wales / Where is Caerlloi Parish, Llanfihangel!?
« on: Monday 06 February 06 12:27 GMT (UK)  »
I've just obtained a birth certificate for Robert Davies.
The birth was registered in Gwyddelwern but the certificate states that he was born in the Caerlloy Parish of Llanfihangel, his mother was also from that parish.

Has anyone any idea where this is?

I can't find it on any map, there are at least 14 Llanfihangels so this doesn't really help my search!

I've checked the Bishops Transcript aailable online but cannot find the birth of my ancestor Moses Hugh (or Hughes) about 1799 Trawsfynydd.

It was interesting that I did find the burial of a Moses Hugh in Trawsfynydd 6 Mar 1795 which I assume is related in some way or another...

ALSO, if possible...
Moses was living in Llan-Maria, Llanenddwyn, Meirionethshire during the 1851 Census and I was hoping someone might have access to the 1841 Census to see if there are any more children and further details which may help my search.

Thank you.
