Completed Census Requests / 1911 Census
« on: Saturday 25 October 08 18:33 BST (UK)  »
Hi Folks

According to FindmyFamily.com the 1911 census is going to be available to view on that particular website from 2009 on a pay per view basis.  Does anyone know if Ancestry will be also adding this census to their site, cos like most people I am a fully paid up member and don't really feel the inclination to pay per view on another site.

Robert Thomas Dougherty married Gertrude Elizabeth Foxon in Lincolnshire in 1915.

They emigrated to Victoria very shortly afterwards.  I have found them on the Australian Voters list for 1924 in Dandenong.
They had many children, some I have names for, but others just initials, it is the initials I would like names for if poss.

The first child was Nora bn 1917 Victoria ( I presume Dandenong) Another daughter was Frances Mabel bn 1925 in Dandenong, but there were others that include:

H.L.  Dougherty (male) bn 1920
R.T.  Dougherty (male) bn 1922
J.  Dougherty (male) bn 1926
E.L.   Dougherty (female) 1927

I've tried the Passenger Lists, but don't really know if I'm looking at the right ones.  They all seem too early for this family.

If anyone is researching this family or knows how I can find this names of these children, please get in touch.  I am connected to them through their mother Gertrude Elizabeth Dougherty (nee Foxon)

Thanks

Lincolnshire / Super sleuth needed to find my missing Charles Taylor from Gedney
« on: Wednesday 22 October 08 20:24 BST (UK)  »
Charles Taylor was born in Gedney Marsh, Lincolnshire in 1874 to Francis (Frank) and Fanny Taylor.

He was the eldest child and had 5 sisters.

Mary Ann
Emma
Ada
Maud
Kate

Our family researchers have accounted for all the children but Charles remains a mystery.  He appears on the 1881 census with his family, but is not seen again, but doesn't appear in the BMD index either, so we assume he didn't die.  We have heard stories that he emmigrated to who knows where, but that's as far as it goes.

Is anyone out there connected to him or can find out where he went.

Fingers crossed  :o

Worcestershire / Ann Newman from Blockley
« on: Sunday 19 October 08 00:34 BST (UK)  »
This will be like finding hens teeth!

Can anyone place a Newman family in Blockley around 1770 give or take 10 years.  I'm trying to find a family for my Ann bn c1781.  She married William Taylor in 1807 in Ebrington, Gloucestershire.

Gloucestershire / Boyce family from Saintbury
« on: Sunday 19 October 08 00:25 BST (UK)  »
My earliest Boyce is John Boyce bn c1712 in Saintbury.  John married a Margaret bef. 1737

His son Robert Boyce bn 1742 in Saintbury is my direct line, but John's 2nd son was Hudson Boyce bn 1739, Hudson being a middle name that has passed down through various descendent families and whom I believe to have been a vicar.  Hudson married a Mary Allcock in Fladbury, Worcestershire.

I have seen on the IGI many Boyce families in Gloucestershire earlier than 1712 and wondered if my family belonged to any of them.

Any help most graciously welcome.

Thomas Taylor married Fanny Radford in Chipping Campden 31 Oct 1837.

They produced George Radford Taylor 1840 and John 1843 in Broad Campden.  I am sure they must have had more children than this, but I just can't find any.

Is there anybody out there who has an interest in the Taylor name from any of the places named in the subject title.

George Radford Taylor is my ancestor he married Lucy Booker in Ebrington on 9 Nov 1865.

Taylor is a very common name and I can't believe that my Taylors were the only ones living in the area at the time.

Here's hoping

Lincolnshire / Ann Willcock 1775 ?Fishtoft - Anymore Willcock Researchers
« on: Saturday 18 October 08 23:58 BST (UK)  »
I have hit a brickwall with this family.

Ann Willcock's parents were Thomas Willcock c1750 ?Fishtoft? and Mary Temple 1747 Fishtoft, although Mary had been married previously to a John Smedley.

I can't find any siblings for Ann, nor can I find any parents or siblings for her father.

Ann married Solomon Pepper in 1806 in Fishtoft and had oodles of children.

Any Fishtoft or Willcock help gratefully received.

Cork / From Cork came the Meagan/magin family, however it was spelled!!
« on: Saturday 18 October 08 15:27 BST (UK)  »
I don't know how my mother's family name originally sounded or was spelled, this is partly where my probelm lies.  Since 1881 it has been spelled Meagan, but the earliest spelling in 1841 was Magin.  I imagine they were illiterate, so the enumerator would go by sound I expect.

My 3x gt grandfather migrated from Cork to Spittlefields/Whitechapel.  His name was John meagan (Magin) bn c1811.  John had a brother or cousin Maurice bn 1821.  They were both Tailors by trade.

John married Sarah ?? and had the following children:  John 1836, Mary 1839 and James 1841.  They were supposedly born in Middlesex, but I can find not one record to confirm this, so assume they were born in Ireland and came over with their parents.  Sarah died and John remained in Spittlefields until his death in around 1870.

Maurice moved down to Bristol with his wife Margaret (from Tipperary.)  They had Lawrence 1851, Margaret 1854 and James 1856.

I don't know if any records exist for the imigration of the Irish into England prior to the Potato Famine, but I would very much like to know if this surname is on any such document, I don't actually know whether it is Cork City or  just County Cork they referred to.

Any help would be most graciously received.
