Cornwall / Child buried at age 6 but recorded as "Child of" with no given name?
« on: Sunday 31 March 24 22:21 BST (UK)  »
Scenario - All events occur in St Agnes:

Richard Sam(p)son and Mary Thomas are married in 1761.

A son Peter is baptised in 1761 and a daughter Katherin is baptised in Sept 1765.

Peter is buried in 1769. Richard and Mary are both buried in 1770.

A "Child of Richard Sampson" is buried in May 1772. There does not appear to be another Richard Sam(p)son in St Agnes at the time.

If the child buried in 1772 was Katherin, she would have been around 6 years old. How likely is it that a child of 6 would be buried as "Child of" and not have their given name recorded?

I am posting this in the hope it may one day be found by descendants of James McTaggart Blair, born 1889 Port Melbourne.

James was married to Alice Mary Ann Hubbard and had two sons, Alan McTaggart Blair and Bruce Athol Blair (all deceased).

I have an item related to James' WWI service that I would like to pass on to the family.

Australia / QUINN, Roland Martin - Birch's Bay, Tasmania circa 1914 - 1922
« on: Sunday 29 May 22 02:31 BST (UK)  »
Hi All

I am trying to find more information about Roland Martin Quinn, shown on the electoral roll in 1914, 1919 and 1922 as living in Birch's Bay, Tasmania with no occupation.

I have tried searching for other records but these 3 references are all that I have found and I have no other information about this person.

I have previously posted about and researched a relative named Roland Martin Quinn who was born in India in 1871 and died in New Zealand in 1918 (https://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php?topic=669468). I do not believe the two men are connected but I am looking to eliminate a possibility that they have been confused for each other.

Australia / HEFFERING, James - born circa 1807, transported on the Florentia 1827/8
« on: Sunday 03 October 21 10:24 BST (UK)  »
Hi all.

I am looking to see if there is any more information about a convict named James Heffering.

James was convicted of stealing a fowl at the Old Bailey in January 1827 and sentenced to 7 years. He was transported to NSW on the Florentia departing August 1827 and arriving January 1828. Records show he was originally from County Mayo and born about 1807.

The last record I have found for James is a Certificate of Freedom from 1841.

I am trying to determine whether or not he could be Albury blacksmith J C Everitt referenced in this previous post: https://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php?topic=705926

More recent information not included in the previous post:

1. The 1829 Newgate Prison record for William Andrews alias Everett (Luke Everitt) shows that was originally from County Mayo (credit goes to Kody Everitt who contributed to the previous post).

2. The y-DNA tests for two great-great-grandsons of Luke Everitt show a very close connection to two men descended from a Heffernan / Hefferan / Hefferon family from Ballinrobe, County Mayo.

Any additional information about James Heffering greatly received.

Cornwall / HANCOCK, Grace - baptised Lewannick 1721
« on: Sunday 07 February 21 10:38 GMT (UK)  »
Grace Hancock is baptised in Lewannick on 25 April 1721. There appear to be no parents recorded.

I have seen trees on Ancestry that show here parents as John Hancock and Amy Scantelbury/Skentlebury.

Any assistance with confirming parents for Grace greatly appreciated.

Cornwall / THOMAS, Mary - baptised St Agnes 1740
« on: Sunday 07 February 21 10:24 GMT (UK)  »
Mary Thomas is baptised in St Agnes on 26 Dec 1740. Her father is recorded as Mark Thomas but no mother is shown.

I have seen trees on Ancestry showing her father as the Mark Thomas who marries Elizabeth Warrington on 2 Dec 1742 in St Endellion.

Any assistance with confirming a mother for Mary would be greatly appreciated.

Canada / EDWARDS - ROBINSON marriage British Columbia
« on: Sunday 08 November 20 20:02 GMT (UK)  »
Hi All

I know this post is skirting potentially living people territory so I understand if it isn't allowed.

Finley Stewart Robinson (b Ontario 1907, d BC 1973) married Jessie Brooks (b Ontario 1909, d BC 1968) in BC in 1927. Jessie's obituary shows there were 2 daughters:

Pauline, who married Norman Charles Edwards (b 1927, d 1997 - related post here: https://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php?topic=800406.msg7016909#msg7016909). I understand Pauline is also deceased but have not found a record to confirm the date.

"V" - Jessie's obituary shows her full given name but I am uncertain if she is living or not. The obituary shows that her married name is also Edwards. Pauline's husband Norman does not appear to have had a brother.

I am looking to find the name of V's father-in-law. Ultimately I am trying to eliminate the possibility that her husband was Norman's 1st cousin.

Any assistance greatly appreciated.

United States of America / ZIMMERMAN, Anne "Nancy" Tocher (EDWARDS) - died 1978
« on: Monday 24 August 20 22:09 BST (UK)  »
Hi everyone

Anne Tocher Edwards - known as "Nancy" - was born in Inverkeilor, Scotland on 7 April 1923, the daughter of Norman Edwards and Anne Tocher Ewen.

I am not sure when Norman migrated, but Anne and Nancy travelled together to Canada in 1924.  A brother Norman Charles Edwards was born in Vancouver in 1927 (died 1997) - related thread here: https://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php?topic=800406

Nancy married Frederick Ernest Zimmerman (1923 - 2001) and in August 1945 migrated to California.  I have details of 2 children born in California in the 1950s.  Nancy & Frederick divorced in 1968.

Nancy died 12 October 1978 in San Francisco recorded as Nancy Anne Zimmerman.

I am hoping to find an obituary for Nancy.

Europe / ITALY: FAUNCE, Alured De Laune - death after 1962
« on: Sunday 19 April 20 02:34 BST (UK)  »
Hi All

I am not sure whether any information can be found about a death that may have occurred in Italy after 1962.

Alured De Laune (sometimes recorded as Delaune) Faunce was born in Cootamundra, NSW, Australia in 1905 (although he often gives 1906 on records), parents Alured Tasker Faunce and Bertha Mary Catherine Everitt.

Alured served as an officer in the Australian Army during WWII and then served overseas with the United Nations Relief and Rehabilitation Administration and later the Food and Agriculture Organisation.  He seems to have been based in Italy during his time with the UN.

I have records for Alured in Australia and I have found contemporary reports and later histories that refer to his service with the UN. I have also found a number of passenger records relating to his service with the UN, the last being a trip from Paris to New York on Pan Am dated 1962.

The 1962 passenger list gives his address as 16 Via del Vascello, Rome.  I have also found "society column" items from the 1950s showing his daughter made two trips from Australia to visit him in Italy in the 1950s.  I have not found any evidence his Australian wife joined him in Italy and he does not appear to be buried with her here in Australia.

I am interested in any information about Alured after 1962 including the possiblility that his death occurred in Italy.

(Note: The Faunce family regularly recycled Alured as a given and a middle name and De Laune as a middle name, and Alured was not the only Faunce to serve with the UN.  There also a related De Laune family that often use Faunce as a middle name.  A general Google search will give lots of hits that may not be the man I am tracing.)
