Scotland / Frances Willocks/Willox b1769c can anyone help find her bapt please?
« on: Thursday 28 December 17 19:15 GMT (UK)  »
SORRY:  :-[ to update the below post I have just realised I asked this question four years ago!! I did get a lot of helpful info re the name etc and area of Scotland she may have come from (Aberdeen/Kilmarnock) but no one actually found a baptism. I will leave it here just in case any further info has been released in the last four years that anyone can provide. I appreciate that this may just be one of those dead ends though  :'(

Hi!

My 4 x Great grandmother was named Frances Willocks (Willox) and was born around 1789 in Scotland. She married three times (John Newton, Alexander Mercer and John Neville) and lived mostly in Preston Lancashire. Her father was called George. I would love to find her baptism and hopefully her mother’s name and siblings. She died in 1863 aged 74 hence the estimation of her birth year.
I would love any further information about her early life.
Thank you so much.  :)

Lancashire Lookup Requests / Lettice Hayhurst - looking for bapt c.1818
« on: Wednesday 27 December 17 19:02 GMT (UK)  »
I wonder if anyone can find Lettice Hayhurst’s baptism. On her marriage certificate in 1838 her father is John Hayhurst (weaver). She married in Manchester but lived in Blackburn afterwards and possibly before so thinking her baptism may be Blackburn. She was of full age on marriage certificate in 1838, 20 on 1841 census and died aged 31 in 1849. I just can’t get any further back! Thanks.

Scotland / Willocks - origins in Scotland, please help!
« on: Saturday 17 August 13 22:05 BST (UK)  »
Hello!

I am back doing family history after a bit of a break and am looking for some Scottish experts to help me please! I posted the message below back in 2009 but only got one reply suggesting I also consider Willox as a variant (I have included this in my searches but its not really helped although Frances' marriage does list her as Willax!). I would love to try and get further information on Frances or her father George as I seem to have come to a complete dead end! Many many thanks!

Frances Willocks is my 4x great grandmother born c1789 in Scotland.

She married my 4x grt grandfather John Newton in Ribchester, Lancashire in 1818 and when he died in 1842 she went on to remarry twice - Alexander Mercer in 1847 and John Neville in 1857 both in Preston Lancashire. I believe she died in 1863.

She had five children that I know of Joseph, John, George, Benjamin (my 3x great grandfather) and Mary Ann - all to John Newton.

In 1851 she is at Croft Court in Preston aged 60, a factory worker and is down as born in Scotland (no county given).

I would *love* it if anyone could find her baptism details, or where she came from in Scotland or anything about her parents or siblings. I do know her father was called George as this was given on one of her marriage certificates. The name spelling has varied so not exactly sure if its Willock, Willocks, Willcox, Willcock?!

These details may (or may not!) help...

Armed Forces / Forces War Records website - does it offer more than Ancestry?
« on: Friday 16 November 12 09:46 GMT (UK)  »
Question in the title really! Am hunting down WW1 relatives but struggling a bit. Will I find more on the Forces War Records website or is it the same as ancestry. I don't want to pay twice for the same thing!
Thanks :)

Midlothian / Death in Scotland look up please
« on: Thursday 15 November 12 18:16 GMT (UK)  »
Hello!
I have no experience of Scottish records *at all* so apologies if I'm asking for something daft but I'm trying to track down the death of my great grandmothers sister. She was born Edna Winstanley in 1903 in Preston Lancashire, I think she married Ronald Millen in 1947 in Preston. My mum believes that she lived in Edinburgh or thereabouts towards the end of her life and that she died before her sister, my great grandmother, so that would be prior to 1985. Is it possible to access that sort of record? I'm just trying to get a date, or a year would do. But it would also 'back up' her marriage information because I'm not 100% sure I've got the right one!
Many thanks for any help anyone can offer :)

England / BECK - can anyone find a link between these two families please? :-)
« on: Monday 12 September 11 10:58 BST (UK)  »
Hello all!!  ;D

Let me just start by saying its been a *long* time since I last researched ...life got in the way and then took over  ::)...so I'm a bit rusty and am tentatively trying to pick up some threads. As a result of my inactivity I no longer have my Ancestry subscription  :( so have been limited so far as to what I can work out but I wonder if any of you can help me with this puzzle please...   (sorry if I've posted in the wrong place - was going to put it in Lancashire but it also involves Cheshire so didn't know what to do, feel free to move to another board if it should be elsewhere - not bothered where it is as long as someone can help! :-))

My 3 x great grandfather was Thomas Hindle Beck (b Dec 1833 Blackburn Lancashire). His middle name was Hindle due to the fact that this was his mother's maiden name (Ann Hindle). His father was William Beck and he has long been a brick wall for me as his age varies on census' (1851 - 55yrs and 1861 - 74yrs as I recall?!) and he has been listed as from 'Lancaster Kirk' (1851) and 'Ireland Cork' (1861)!!

In an effort to progress things further, and in familiarising myself with the family again, I began looking at my notes. Thomas Hindle Beck had several children with his wife Alice (Kenyon) and amongst these were two sons called Edwin (one died at 2mths 1867 and the subsequent child was also named Edwin 1869). As this was a more unusual name I put it in a few search engines/websites to see if it may be a repeated family name used in other branches. I came across an Edwin Beck b 1861 Woodchurch, Wirral and in investigating him a little further I found he had a son called Thomas Hindle Beck b1884 in Blackburn!

Now I know it could be a complete co-incidence but I have a feeling that it is likely these two families are connected in some way - two Edwins, two Thomas Hindles and the link to Blackburn. Can anyone help me see if there is a link because anything that would help me push back further with William Beck would be fantastic!

Using the only records available to me - namely IGI, Cheshire Parish Register website and the Cheshire BMD - I have tentatively put together a family for Edwin's ancestors in Cheshire but I haven't come across any link to William as yet.  My links for Edwin - IF CORRECT - would have him born to Thomas/Ann 1861 and then Thomas born to John/Betsy(Elizabeth) in 1832 and then John born to Thomas/Jane in 1812 all in the Hoose/West Kirby/Woodchurch area.

Would be soooo grateful if anyone can help and if more info is needed (or I have forgotten to mention something obvious - probably!) then please ask and I will raid my notes for anything else that might help.

thank you in anticipation

Scotland / Frances Willocks/Wilcocks (?) b1789c Scotland
