Australia / Orange, New South Wales, Methodist Minister Training School
« on: Saturday 18 February 23 04:55 GMT (UK)  »
Hello all,

An ancestor, Benjamin John James (1874 - 1955), born Daylesford, Victoria, was a Methodist in New Zealand. Apparently he had the choice of training in Auckland, New Zealand, or in Orange, New South Wales.
He turned down Orange as he thought the temperature would be too hot.
What do you think of that?
And what is the name of that training establishment in Orange?

Thank you for your help.

A cousin has just been granted her adoption papers - after years of being told that they don't exist, and that she will learn nothing from them.
Officialdom was wrong.
There is quite a sheaf of papers, and she now knows the name pf her father.
However there is a lot of detail, which of course is new to her, and she would love to know what it says.
But officialdom has not yet finished with her.
1. She has access to the papers while sitting in a public room filled with people making all sorts of queries. This does not make it easy to concentrate on getting all the details.
2. She is not allowed a pen or pencil - hence having to try and memorize.
3. She is not allowed a camera so she can have her own hard copy.
4. They will not copy the pages for her, even though she has said she will pay.

What would you do? After 70 plus years she wants to know the lot.

Both sets of parents, both natural and adoptive are deceased, so no one is being upset.

We would be very grateful for any tips to get around this obstacle.

Thank you
Jean Price

Scotland / William Jones Aitken
« on: Saturday 10 December 22 04:14 GMT (UK)  »
Good evening all,

I am looking for William Jones Aitken, who was supposedly born in Glasgow in 1862/1863. Sadly Scotland's People is not being kind to me today.

He was in Christchurch, Canterbury, New Zealand, in 1885, when he married his first wife.

I would be very pleased to know the names of his parents, his birth date.

Edited to show correct marriage year.

Thank you

New Zealand Completed Requests / Edward Francis Clement Searancke

Good evening all,

I have lost this gentleman.
He was born in New Zealand 15 May 1916.
Was in the New Zealand Police Force - based in Auckland  in 1951 when he was an executor for his mother's will.
Married Ellen Clara Cecilia Pentecost 15 March 1941.
Was father to four children - the last one born 1951.

I can find no trace of him after 1951.

His wife married Morris Aaron Lawson after 1942 (the year Morris's first wife died)

Can any one help?
Thank you
Jean Price

New Zealand Completed Requests / Arthur Valentine Williams (1881 - 1965)
« on: Wednesday 21 September 22 08:17 BST (UK)  »
Good evening all,

I would be very grateful if some one could find me a birth or death date for Dorothy Edmondson in New Zealand.

Dorothy was the second wife of Arthur, who had married, and then divorced my great aunt Florence Mary Cox.
I would like to round out his biography but I am stuck on Dorothy. All I know - using the Wilson Collection is their marriage in 1943.

I am house bound, so cannot get to a library to use Ancestry.
Any clues most welcome

Technical Help / Finding a specific paper in Google Newspapers
« on: Wednesday 03 August 22 23:43 BST (UK)  »
Good morning all,

I can never remember how to use Google newspapers.
I wish to look up a death notice in"The Age", Melbourne, Australia.
I can get the "The Age", but how do I get to the date I want?

I promise to write the instructions down this time.

Regards
Jean Price

PS I mean the newspapers on "Google Newspapers" - not "Trove"

Technical Help / Moving GMail from Desktop to Laptop
« on: Monday 04 July 22 04:14 BST (UK)  »
Good afternoon all,

I need to move or copy Gmail from my desktop computer to a laptop.
I use Google Chrome as my browser on both computers.
When I try to open Gmail on the laptop it asks for my password. Unfortunately, it does not like the pass word I have recorded in my book of passwords. It offers to send it to my mobile phone, but I don't have one of those.
Any ideas of what I do now.
Thank you in advance,
Jean Price

PS Every day or so I go to the desktop and look at the email there but I would really like to make life easier for my self.

New Zealand Completed Requests / New Zealand B D M's
« on: Saturday 19 March 22 03:35 GMT (UK)  »
Hello All,

I have just found a marriage registration for a couple in 1906. Well, actually two. Same names, same date, but two registration numbers.
Why would this be and which one is the more correct?
Please do not tell me to write to them - it took 6 months to get my last answer to a query.

Thank you

Technical Help / Face Book
« on: Wednesday 16 March 22 06:21 GMT (UK)  »
Good evening all,

Can some one please explain Face Book etiquette.

I found a researcher who had set up a page on Face Book explaing the research he/she was doing. Because I have an ancestor who worked in the same exact area I posted a message asking if he/she had come across the name in his/her research. I had a reply and then a second reply saying he/she would get back to me after Christmas.

I have not had another reply and now when I look at the Face Book page my message and the two replies are nowhere to be seen.

Can the Face Book researcher delete my messages or do I try again.

Thank you
Jean Price
