World War Two / Bomb Reconnaissance Officer
« on: Saturday 30 May 20 10:39 BST (UK)  »
Can anyone please tell me a bit more about BRO bomb reconnaissance officers.

Did they exist across all (bombed) cities in the UK at the start of WW2?

Were they only recruited from Royal Engineers initially? (Before Blitz), Recruitment after Blitz?

Is there an index of BROs, specifically for Kent (Gravesend, Thanet/Margate)?

Thanks

World War Two / A case of changed identity
« on: Tuesday 26 May 20 14:46 BST (UK)  »
I would very much appreciate some help to understand what the initials SEA mean on a military card (dated 1948) with military number 81992.

The name provided on the card is fictitious and the person’s real name probably starts with Stanley. How easy would it be to ‘Simply’ change a name on such a document?

He was a reconnaissance specialist and in WW2 was responsible for some of the beaches near Margate.

There is a number on the card. Do we quote this number if we request his service records, or is this number used for a different purpose?

This person was attached to the Royal Ordnance Army Corps and had also served in WW1 (aged 17/18). Fluent in several Indian languages it’s possible he spent time in India? Or worked closely with an Indian regiment? He told his family he was part of the Black & Tans during the Irish troubles and also served in India, and in 4th Hussars.

Thanks

Down / Living relatives of Samuel Kingsberry- died 1918
« on: Friday 08 February 19 12:27 GMT (UK)  »
I'm trying to help CWG find living descendants of Rifleman Samuel Kingsberry (died 1918). A new war gravestone will be installed in Dundonald Cemetery, Belfast.

I have found Samuel James Kingsberry, son of William and Isabella Hinton....and created a family tree with persons who I believe could be his siblings.

Next step to find out what happened to them..

But is this the right family?

Who did the siblings marry?

Nephews & nieces?

Letitia Kingsberry on 1911 census as 'sister in law'...who else on census?

Any info, thoughts on this? Collaborative power of researchers could probably solve this mystery.

Hello

I’m trying to date this photo and have two options…1898, 1901 or 1874

Inclined to think it is 1898 or 1901.

Garddrafon, or Gardrafon, or Gard Rafon appears in the 1851 Census of Carnarvon. The street/area is also referred to in newspaper articles about the Cholera outbreak of 1866…

Can someone please tell me where this street / area may have been in Carnarvon?

Same applies to Henwaliau Uchaf, again in the West Ward of Carnarvon. Roughly translated this might have meant Old Welsh Hill?

Thanks

Denbighshire / Robert Jones and Sarah Griffith(s) married 1839 Denbigh
« on: Friday 22 June 18 13:20 BST (UK)  »
Please can someone assist with following look-up request:

Robert Jones (born 1812, Denbigh?) and Sarah Griffith(s) (born 1812 Henllan) married 1839 Denbigh

I believe Robert’s father might have been a hosiery shopkeeper

I’m hoping the parish records might tell me more.

Sarah’s father might be Robert…

..sorry clutching at straws on this one…

Thanks
