The Common Room / Adopted Ancestor
« on: Saturday 21 October 06 18:56 BST (UK)  »
Hi
Can anyone one advise me how to go about tracing an adopted ancestor?
My Grandfather was born 1905, I know his date of birth and approximate location, I have searched the bmd indexes for him with no luck, but............... I recently spoke to an aunt (one of his daughters) and she says that she has afeeling that she heard many years ago that he was adopted.
So, if he was, I have his adoptive name but no birth name, is there anyway to trace him?
Would be glad of any pointers at all.
Thanks
Anne

« on: Wednesday 16 August 06 19:21 BST (UK)  »
Hi All
Not sure if I'm posting this on the correct board but here goes.
After using Rootschat to showcase my Family History site and being well pleased with the hosting, when our local History Group wanted to develop a website for the village I had no reservations about using Rootschat to host it.
I have just finished uploading the first pages and would welcome some feed back from my fellow rootschatters.
Soooooooo....if any of you have a few minutes to spare would you kindly just have a peruse for me at

Thanks

The Common Room / Ancestry- anyone else having probs?
« on: Monday 27 March 06 19:45 BST (UK)  »
Hi
I just had to let off steam somewhere. I have a subscription to the UK and Ireland Collections and have just tried to use the search and the bl**ming site tells me I must upgrade to search as I am only a ..........
REGISTERED GUEST
So............ I duly filled in the email ancestry facility (and I told them a thing or two, I tell you!) clicked the submit button and what happens? I get a page that says 'Your query has not been submitted yet, please try our 'Help' section.
Duly tried all their ideas, nothing worked, so once again clicked the submit button and............BINGO takes me to a blank email page again, whole email disappeared, just had to write another,,,,,,,,grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr
Any one else had this problem?
Anne
PS I suppose it'll be another week now before I hear from them, and all the while I've paid to use it for x amount of days. Is this a con or what?
PPS Feel better now after a good rant!

Norfolk Lookup Requests / 1861 Brockdish, Norfolk
« on: Wednesday 25 January 06 20:11 GMT (UK)  »
Hi
I have been searching Ancestry.co.uk for a person thought to be in Brockdish, Norfolk on the 1861 census. Needless to say couldn't find her.
When I tried to search Brockdish via the county lists it seems that Brockdish isn't listed.
Does anyone know if ,and if so why, Brockdish isn't there? Was it lost or just not transcribed with the rest of 1861 Norfolk?
Would be grateful if anyone has any ideas

Suffolk Completed Lookup Requests / 1841 Ilketshall St Andrews- HOWLETT
« on: Friday 09 December 05 22:58 GMT (UK)  »
Hi
Does any kind soul out there have access to the 1841 census returns for Ilketshall St Andrews, Suffolk
I'm looking for a GEORGE HOWLETT most probably with a wife called SARAH.
There will probably be at least one son GEORGE aged about 2 years and maybe another son JOHN a few months old.
Both GEORGE and SARAH would be Suffolk born. George had died before the 1851 census so this is my only hope of finding him. :(
Thanks in advance
