Cheshire / LOUISA WATMOUGH
« on: Monday 26 December 05 15:06 GMT (UK)  »
LOUISA WATMOUGH was born in about 1795 [give or take 5 years] but before 1800 and definitely in the 1790's.

She was widowed by 1851 census, where it is recorded that she had 2 unmarried daughters living with her - LOUISA WATMOUGH born in 1819, and RACHEL WATMOUGH [younger daughter].

LOUISA WATMOUGH was married in Warrington in 1852 to WILLIAM GOODALL CUNNINGHAM.

I would be most grateful if anyone can add any further details to these ancestors.

Thank you very much

Happy New Year 2006 to everyone

ASTRONOMER MATHEMATICIAN Immanuel Halton 18th century

If anyone has any details of him I would be very grateful as he is related to the Imison family.

I know that he is supposed to have influenced Flamsteed.

He resided in Wingfield Manor Derbyshire.

He was famous for his sundial which he had.

Thank you very much for your help

England / ENUMERATOR - MISINTERPRETATION of census handwriting
« on: Wednesday 19 October 05 15:25 BST (UK)  »
Hello

Has anyone had similar experiences to my own whereby they try to find a person's name in the UK census collection and find that it is impossible to find relatives you KNOW exist in the census data?

For example, I have been looking for family members of the IMISON family tree but although I ultimately found my direct ancestors, it was purely by chance as they had been interpreted as JANTON.  Another was JANESON.  Imison and Imeson have also caused confusion.

I am sure that it might be helpful to everyone on Rootschat if we had a LOST IN TRANSLATION area - is there any possibility that it could be arranged please?

I find Rootschat a very good site and hope that this might be arranged, if it is not already there in which case, please redirect me there.

Best wishes

One Name Studies: H to M / IMISON and HALTON family trees
« on: Monday 17 October 05 21:07 BST (UK)  »
Hello

I believe that there are many branches of the IMISON and HALTON families still out there that I have not seen.

One big problem is that the enumerators of the UK censuses either did not spell correctly, or that the people who looked at the enumerators' writing misread the handwriting and have put 'imaginary' names for the people.  That means that unless one has precise details of where one's family lived, those people become more or less 'invisible'.

I know that Imanuel Halton was an ancestor - he was a mathematician / astologer and had 3 brothers each of whom attended Queen's College Oxford.

I believe that one of the earliest ancestors was called MILES and he came over with the Conqueror in 1066.

I know this sounds fanciful, and I have no surname, and no proof of this, but it is a family legend nonetheless.

I would be grateful if anyone out there has information - I have seen the boards but wonder if the above data might strike a chord with someone who has links to the above.

Best wishes

« on: Friday 14 October 05 18:56 BST (UK)  »
I know that Richard Imison married Ann Shaw in 1802 in Westminster London.

Does anyone have details as to who the parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, siblings of both Richard Imison and Ann Shaw were?

Their own children were Richard and Samuel.

Thank you

Imison
