Joseph Glavesky b.c1867, m.1886 Liverpool, d. 1926 Liverpool.
Father - Michael Glavesky.
Census origins - Poland.

Clement Glavisky b.c1875, m.1898 Liverpool, d.1953 Liverpool.
Father - ?
Census origins - Poland, Lithuania.

Both worked in the sugar refining industry in Liverpool.

I am helping another researcher with this and we have the censuses, BMDs, probates, etc for these and family onward, but we are struggling with finding the places of birth of these gentlemen.

Are there any online records for this area, or useful sources that could be contacted, please ?

The Common Room / FutureLearn Free Online Genealogy Course - July 3
« on: Monday 26 June 17 14:21 BST (UK) »
Yet another opportunity to join this excellent course, starting a week today, Monday July 3.

Many RCers have gained valuable help and experience from earlier versions of this mooc. It has been regularly tinkered with, and with far fewer students now the discussion is far more manageable.

Well worth a try for new students or those who wish to repeat.

Important new info ... In line with all FutureLearn moocs, the course material will now only be available to you for a couple of weeks after the course ends (without payment), so copy/save anything you wish to keep as you go along.

Benjamin Kipling, Bell Tuner

I've just read today's entry in Spitalfields Life ... a joy to read about such a fascinating occupation ... I thought it might please others too.

Any lookups, just ask.

There was a marked improvement in the course the second time round. Certainly much easier to follow with fewer numbers. Always something to learn.

Try it with an open mind ... continue with it ... or dump it.

Scotland / Looking for any Sugar refiners, Sugarhouse labourers, etc
« on: Thursday 29 September 16 20:06 BST (UK) »
With SP's new website being no better than the old one regarding browsing, I wonder if any of you can help me, please.

If you see church register entries giving an occupation such as sugar refiner, sugar baker, labourer in sugarhouse, sugar broker, etc, I wonder if you could please record them and pass them on to me, so that I can add them to my database at www.mawer.clara.net/intro.html .

This is something that I hoped to be doing myself with SP introducing various subscription options, but that has not come about. One entry every 20-50 pages does not make cost effective research with pay-per-view. ;D

I have searched the early censuses using the transcriptions, but once again I can't browse the 1911 Greenock census where there may be several hundred relevant entries.

Thank you.

Whilst many on RC were unhappy with (parts of) this course, myself included, it has to be said that the course discussion was very favourable.

Try it with an open mind ... continue with it ... or dump it.
