Staffordshire Lookup Requests / 1841 look up - areas near Brum...
« on: Wednesday 02 November 05 03:48 GMT (UK)  »
Hi

Trying to find a Wassell in the 1841 census - William Wassell b.1818 and his daughter Ann Elizabeth Wassell b.1838. In 1838 they are living in St Thomas district of Birmingham on Thorpe St but then his wife dies 1839.

In 1843 he remarries in Handsworth so I'm hoping he might show up in the Staffs 1841 census and by 1848 is living in St Thomas again in Windmill Hill.

He is a brass founder and so far Wassell has shown up in other census as Hassell, Wassal, Warsel etc!!

Thanks!

Gloucestershire / 1841 and 1851 resources online?
« on: Tuesday 18 October 05 13:14 BST (UK)  »
Hi

Trying to track down some families in Minchinhampton, Horsley and Cheltenham in the 1840's. Being based in NZ, I was wondering what resources are available online or that can be ordered online?

Also I've checked out Minchinhampton and Horsley using the online 1851 census info - is there anything available for Cheltenham too?

Any help much appreciated.

Hi

I'm looking for the marriage of Joseph Brown and Caroline Haywood, first child was born 1874 in Birmingham. Have been unable to find it - but have found three names on a page, one being Caroline Haywood. Is it possible that a name i.e. Joseph Brown could be missed off? Is there often three names on a page?

Thanks for any light you can cast on this.

Shropshire / Carters in Ludlow - advice wanted!
« on: Sunday 04 September 05 04:47 BST (UK)  »
Hi

I have traced my family back to Ludlow in the early 1800's. A John Carter married to a Catharine (Kitty). They had 6 children - John (1812), William (1814), Mary (1820), Thomas (1823), Eliza (1825) and Harriet (1829).

At some point at least three of the offspring, possibly the whole family relocated to Birmingham. How would I go about finding out where they may have lived in Ludlow and how do I trace John and Catharine back further? On ancestory.com there is a record of a John  Carter being born to an Edward and Ann Carter in Ludlow on 10 Dec 1787. Complete supposition at this point but Edward is a name that crops up a lot amongst the grandchildren, so I wondered how I could investigate this possible link?

Thanks in advance for any suggestions that you may have.

Hi. Be very grateful if anyone can help and check the following out on the 1841 census.

I am looking for either of these individuals (or their fathers) who were married in 1843 at Handsworth Parish Church (St Mary's I guess?).

William Wassell, a Brass Founder, Residence Handsworth, Father Joseph Wassell - occupation Brewer.

Mary Carter, also resident in Handsworth, Father John Carter, a Glove Cutter. Other info on Mary from later censuses - b. 1819 in Ludlow.

Thanks very much.
