Wiltshire Lookup Requests / CHARLTON Registers- Philip FRY 1831
« on: Friday 14 October 11 23:55 BST (UK)  »
Hi,
I am looking for the birth of Philip Fry (and who his parents were!).

From the 1881 - Aged 50 born Wiltshire
From the 1901 - Aged 70 born Charlton, Wiltshire.

I tried the 1841 for Wiltshire, but only came up with  Philip Fry born 1836 living in East Grimstead...... and I have no idea where any town/village is in Wiltshire!!

I understand that there is more than one village called Charlton in Wiltshire, but I'm sorry, I can't narrow it down any further :(

Thank you

Census Lookup and Resource Requests / Maine's Farm, Beeding Road, Steyning, Sx
« on: Thursday 13 October 11 23:04 BST (UK)  »
Hi,
My Great Great Grandmother, Rachel Fry (née Backholer) b. 1813  Chardstock, widow, died at this farm in 1899, and her son, George Fry b. 1840, Chardstock, had come down from Camberwell to be with her when she died.

I was wondering 'What on earth was she doing in Sussex??'
She was in Kent in 1881, with her daughter Annie and son-in-law, Henry Down, and still with them in 1891, but in Somerset. Annie died 1893 Shepton Mallet.

Is it possible to look up the farm, Maines Farm, on the 1891 and 1901 to give a bit of a clue as to who was living there at those times.

Thank you

Sussex / Upper Beeding death 1899
« on: Monday 09 August 10 12:19 BST (UK)  »
Hi,
I thought I had found the death record of my great great grandmother, Rachel Fry (née Backholer/variants b.1813 Chardstock) in Shepton Mallett, SOM., but this has turned out to be another Rachel Fry of similar age.

The only other alternative is Upper Beeding 30 Nov 1899, Rachel Fry, age 86.

My query is, How come she was in Upper Beeding?

One daughter, Annie, had died in 1893, Torrington, Devon. She was with Annie's family in 1891 in Kent. The daughter's husband and one of the children were in the Taunton area 1901.
Her other daughter, Alice, moved from Chard to Beaminster during this period.
Her son, George, and family were in Camberwell.

Was there any well known retirement home in the area at this time, as there seem to be no relatives in West Sussex then.

Thanks

Somerset Lookup Requests / 1841 marriage Chard
« on: Sunday 23 May 10 18:19 BST (UK)  »
Hi,
I'm almost sure that the marriage I am looking for is
Joseph Parris (of Chardstock) and Elizabeth Edmonds (of Lopen?)

I looked this up on FreeBMD, but had different volume numbers on the GRO. Poor Joseph was a solitary Chard district on a page of Manchester district (Vol 20). The image on FreeBMD is not clear at all, and could be a transcription misread, as I think it should be Vol. !0. Both are Sept. qtr. 1841 page 480.

On trying to check using the search.labs.familysearch site Elizabeth Edmonds of Lopen is married to Joseph HARRIS 19/8/1841
or 8-Aug-1841.

Unfortunately 1841 census they were not yet married and by 1851 the Elizabeth living in Chardstock had died - so no clues there.

Feeling rather poor, so if someone could sort this for me without having to order a certificate....
Thank you

Completed Census Requests / GRO Indexes - COMPLETED
« on: Friday 07 September 07 23:17 BST (UK)  »
Hi,
I thought the Ancestry.co.uk index was free, but I am having trouble finding the reference numbers to order a couple of certificates. They are not on FreeBMD either.

The details are
Edith May Hill  birth 9/4/1919 Yeovil, SOM
Edith May Hill marriage November 1941 Yeovil, SOM

Can anybody help - as it is cheaper to get copies from the GRO than copies here - especially as we have mislaid them!!!!

Thanks

Somerset / Polsham - Wells. Baptisms FRY & TEEK
« on: Monday 27 August 07 17:16 BST (UK)  »
Hi,
I've looked around, but can find nothing online for Polsham or Wells. Polsham village is just SW of Wells, not sure if it is separate parish, or comes under St. Cuthberts.

Looking for George Fry c.1807
(Censuses - 1851 Palsham, 1861 Wells, 1871 Wells, 1881 Wells)

and Robert Teek c.1825
(only found him on 1861 - Polsham)

Thank you

London & Middlesex Completed Lookup Requests / 1871/1881 Census TECK or TEEK
« on: Wednesday 22 August 07 16:53 BST (UK)  »
Hi,

I'm looking for any of these 3 in 1871/1881

1891 RG12/1913/131/6.
anne teck age 57.(widower). occ. fancy draper. head. b. wells, somerset.
jane teck age 27. drapers asst. daughter. b. chelsea, middx
matilda.a. fry. niece, age 23. occ. drapers asst. b. kingsland, middx.
living at 30 high street,st. cuthberts,wells,somerset

on the offchance that they were still living in Middx. in 1871/1881.

Jane Teck I have found as Jane TEEK birth Chelsea 1a 171 12/1862
but I don't really want to order the certificate, unless I have to. (Bit skint, just ordered 4 more important ones and probably have to order Matilda's Shoreditch 1c 162 9/1866)
I'm looking for the deceased husband's name, so I can look on FreeBMD for the marriage and Anne TEEK/TECK's maiden name.

Thanks

Somerset Completed Lookup Requests / 1891 census Wells TEEK or TECK
« on: Wednesday 22 August 07 07:43 BST (UK)  »
Hi,
I have just found an Anne Teek or Teck, the hand writing is not that clear, as the informant on the death certificate of my gggrandmother, 1893.
She is described as niece, so I would like to see if I can work out exactly who she was, working backwards.

The address given was 30 High Street, Wells.

Thank you
