Ancestral Family Tree DNA Testing / Irish DNA - No Ethnicity Region
« on: Thursday 18 August 22 15:08 BST (UK)  »
Hi,

I took an Ancestry DNA test several years ago and every time there has been an update I have consistently had a good one fifth of my DNA come up as Irish, however even with the recent update I still have no ethnicity region breakdown.

Everyone else I know who has Irish in their results has an ethnicity region shown and it is spot on with what they know of where their family came from, I have even had a higher percent of Irish DNA in my results than someone who has got their ethnicity region provided.

Another update has been and gone and still only says 'Ireland' and the percentage..  :(

Hello,

Please could anyone assist with any information about the owners of a village store in Walkern, Herts.

I would like to know the owners christian names and anything else about them, as apart from this photo, can find nothing.

I would also appreciate if any date could be provided for the likely period this photo was taken in.

Thank you.

Hertfordshire / What Happened to the Johnson Sisters?
« on: Tuesday 17 August 21 16:34 BST (UK)  »
Hi,

I have lost the trail on two Johnson sisters after the 1881 census and would be very grateful of any assistance.

I have Maria Johnson (b.1864 Walkern, Herts) and sister Emily Johnson (b.1871 Walkern, Herts), who are daughters of Kezia and John Johnson.  There are two other sisters Alice and Sarah-Ann, but I have full details for them birth, marriage, death etc.

Maria is last found in the St John district, Hertford on the 1881 census working as a domestic servant for the Peck family, Emily is last found on the 1881 census with her mother Kezia (a widow by then) and another sister in Walkern.

This is where the trail ends for these two, would be great to complete the story for all four sisters.

Thank you.

The Common Room / UK Birth Certificate Template Change
« on: Tuesday 20 July 21 11:26 BST (UK)  »
Hi,

I thought this would be a quick internet search to get the answer, but alas no!

What I am trying to establish is when did the UK birth certificate change from capturing fathers name and profession etc to the current version that doesn't?

The reason is I want to order a birth certificate for someone to establish fathers name but need to know when the cut off date for it appearing is before placing the order as might be pointless.

Also out of interest why did it change to capture less info?

Thanks

FH Documents and Artefacts / Coldstream Guards Crest?
« on: Monday 03 August 20 10:47 BST (UK)  »
Hi,

Please could anyone id the crest that is engraved in this silver plated object (which has loaded as the image at the bottom), the closest I can match is the Coldstream Guards, but the central cross looks far more embellished and there is a four point star in the centre?

Thanks

Renfrewshire / McLarty/McCallum Conundrum
« on: Saturday 01 August 20 12:14 BST (UK)  »
Hi,

I am hoping a fresh set of eyes might be able to succeed, where I have failed!

On the 1871 census for Scotland, I have a James McLarty, 43 Tailor at Neilston, Barrhead, with wife Elizabeth, daughter Agnes (age 20) and two sons and at the bottom of the household is Margaret McCallum, Granddaughter aged 0 and shown to be born in Barrhead.

I cannot find this birth on SP, even with a wider search age range, as also a mystery how she is a granddaughter.

The McLarty's had another daughter shown on the 1861 census, Janet born around 1850, who would be the likely mother, however there is no marriage for her to a McCallum, so seems strange even if the child was illegitimate to not be down as Margaret McLarty.

Thanks in advance.
