Handwriting Deciphering & Recognition / Don and Ann Mackenzie Marriage

I'd appreciate a transcription of this 1803 Black Isle marriage record.  I can't make out all the words and it looks like money exchanged hands???

The Lighter Side / WHAT IS THE POINT? by "Fed Up"
« on: Sunday 12 March 23 17:37 GMT (UK)  »
I've been drawn to look at some names on my online trees.  I haven't checked everything but have noticed that Mr Nobody has incorrectly "corrected" the spellings of my kin.   Against the names of my kin that I have documentation to back the facts and additionally the ancestors involved are not some distant past shadows, they died when I was a baby.

What is the point of some people's actions of altering information that is backed up by documentation.

What drew these people on familysearch.org to "amend" my grandfather's middle Scottish names "Stephenson Dalglish"  to "Stevenson Dalgliesh" and what caused myheritage the amendment of my gt. grandmother's surname to "Mumford" instead of her actual surname of "Munford"?

Free Photo Restoration & Date Old Photographs / Don M'K Crum with Box Brownie Camera
« on: Monday 12 December 22 22:00 GMT (UK)  »
My late father was born December 1912.  I was sent this photo by a granddaughter of Don's oldest brother John.

I would appreciate and am hoping somebody can resurrect his image.

I thought I'd lost this image of my grandmother's uncle forever, but it's turned up on a calendar that I made about 20 years ago.  It has now yellowed with age and there's a white splodge on it.

When I alter the image to grayscale the face merges into the background, so I'm hoping somebody can enhance his features.

Thank you for reading this.

Technical Help / Old Printer; Old Word document but New PDF instructions
« on: Monday 24 October 22 21:47 BST (UK)  »
This last hour hasn't been much fun as I've struggled to use my old HP copying Machine that is churning out blanks.... instead of a copy image of an ancestor.

Additionally, I've written a letter on a Word document and now I want to print it off but something is instructing me to print it under a PDF Creator 1.7.3. and the instructions are so small that I can't read it.  Does anyone have a suggestion to return the simple instructions of "press print document"

World War Two / Which Regiment was Uncle Jack In?
« on: Friday 15 July 22 14:51 BST (UK)  »
I hope the badge is clear.  This was my late mother's brother John David Shearing born 1916 in Hull, Yorkshire.  I was told he was in Palestine and when he died late 1990s he had a guard of honour from the Desert Rats.  I don't know the year because both my parents had died and I was living in a different county so didn't learn of his death until I saw it whilst researching.   I couldn't find him in the 1939 Register so don't know if he had been called up.

Is there a possibility that this image can be improved?

Ten lines up is the baptism of John Mackenzie on the Black Isle;  I meant to make a note of who the parents were but forgot and now I'd like to know their names but the legibility needs improving.

I'd appreciate and am hoping somebody is up for the challenge.

The Lighter Side / Inherited Genes
« on: Saturday 26 February 22 11:45 GMT (UK)  »
I was taught; "Jaw, Jaw, Jaw, not "War, War, War", thus, when necessary, have spent my life pouring oil on troubled waters, so to speak.

I was horrified to see how fearsome my Scottish Highland ancestors were.  For instance the Browns of Perthshire were known cattle thieves and the Mackenzie Clan didn't get to own castles and swathes of Scottish Highlands by batting their eyelids.

Since the plight of the Ukrainians has been broadcast, I've been overcome with a desire to put on a pair of seven league boots, get myself an AK47 and join locals in their defence of their land and democratic freedom of speech.
