Nottinghamshire / Seeking information - Charles WALKER
« on: Sunday 05 January 14 20:13 GMT (UK)  »
I am seeking information on the family of Charles Walker.  I have been given the following information, but unsure how correct it is.  Charles Walker b. Feb 1807, South Scarle, Nottinghamshire d. 23 mar 1893, Nelson, New Zealand.  Unsure when immigration took place or on what ship, cant seem to find this record.  He married in Nelson, NZ on 24 July 1849 to Harriet Roil b.3 oct 1828, Alton, Hampshire d. 5 sept 1910, Collingwood, Golden Bay, New Zealand.

I have Charles parents as Thomas WALKER b. 1762 (place unknown) d. 1837, South Scarle and buried at South Scarle. His occupation at some point was a farmer.  He married Ann Revell b.1761 (place unknown) d.1837 buried at South Scarle. They married 6 nov 1787, South Scarle. I also found a document that says the are both from Besthorpe.

Thomas and Ann possibly had 7 children.

Charles and Harriet had 10 children with some of the boys owning a mill in Bainham, Golden Bay, New Zealand.

Any other information or correction of information would be appreciated as I seem to have got stuck somewhere a long the way.

Ireland / George Michael Costello
« on: Sunday 05 January 14 08:47 GMT (UK)  »
Hi All

Any information on my great grandfather George William Costello would be much appreciated.  The only information I have is that he was born abt 1886 in Ireland, possibly Westmeath. There are no shipping records for his arrival in New Zealand but he married in 1915  and went to war in 1916, 6 days after the birth of his son.  He divorced after the war and remarried to Elsie Amelia Higgins and they had 3 children, including my Nanna.  There have been rumours that he was a merchant shipman and there is a possibility that he jumped ship.  He died in 1938 in New Zealand.
Thanks for taking the time to read my post.
