« on: Sunday 20 July 14 11:56 BST (UK)  »
The following is a transcript of a letter  which I have, it is from from Johney Tyrrell to his sister and father  in Ireland:-

Houston, Texas, 2218 Singleton.

Dear Sister and Father,

Just a few lines to let you know I am quite well and hoping you are the same. Times are very hard in this country right now but I am working loading ships I am a foreman.  I load some ships going to Dublin sometimes.  I will be 57 years old in November I don't look but about 40.  I am going to write to Minnie and Michael today.  I have all the photos your sent me but I am going to ask Minnie to send me one of Violet is Henry married yet I guess Frank is married by now.  Send me Letty's address in Glasgow and I will write to her for she was the only girl in the world that I ever loved.  I a'nt got no news to tell you but remember me to all.

I remain as ever your brother

Johney,

Address: 2218 Singleton Street, Houston, Texas, U.S.A.

The above is a letter  was written by my great great uncle Johney  which was written in the early 1920's - he was one of 5 children his surname was Tyrrell and came from Ireland.

He wrote the letter to his sister Margaret (Maggie Frank) and his Father who was Frank Tyrrell.  He referred to Minnie and Michael who were his sister in law and brother respectively, Violet was his niece, Henry and Frank were his nephews (Henry was my grandfather)

He referred to Letty who I think was a distant relation (I stand to be corrected on that)..  The address that he wrote from in Texas - the house was built in the 1920's -  as far as I am aware he died in the U.S.A. if anyone knows anything about Johney or what happened to him while there can you please leave a message!

Thank you.

« on: Tuesday 08 April 14 22:41 BST (UK)  »
Searching for details about Daniel Henderson, born in 1881 in Edinburgh, married to Gladys Mary Portage in 1908 had one son Eric born in 1909 - came back to Southampton in 1923 - several trips to the USA and back  in 1927 Gladys came back to the UK and remarried in  Scotland  in 1941 and died in Morningside in 1944.

Daniel was a tea trader and also a smuggler he ran out of money and died in the Bahamas but the records suggest that he died in Bermuda.  As far as I know the Scottish/British Registers were not notified of his death overseas. If anyone knows any details about Daniel or how to track him - any help would be greatly appreciated.
