Not sure if this has already been mentioned but it looks like FindMyPast has free access to records 12th January-15th January 2017. Doesn't include 1939 Register.

Staffordshire / William Blackham died 1826 Handsworth, will proved 1833
« on: Wednesday 04 May 16 13:26 BST (UK)  »
I have found record of a will for William Blackham died August 1826, his will was proved 1833.

The record is on FindMyPast but when I look at the image, it turns out to be for an Esther Rooth, Chesterfield dated 1857 ???

Where would I go now to find a copy of the will?

Dublin / Dennis Shine marriage 1833 Dublin
« on: Tuesday 08 March 16 16:20 GMT (UK)  »
I have found the following marriage transcription:

York Street Congregationalist Church, Dublin, Ireland
6th September 1833

Dennis Shine, address Carlow
Margaret Gladstones, address Fitzwilliam Place

Would there be any further details on the actual register?

This matches with newspaper announcement in Perth/Aberdeen which states Mr Shine of Carlow married Miss Gladstones, daughter of the late George Gladstones of Kelso.

Dennis is stated as being an artist of Londonderry on his daughter Catherine's marriage in 1850 Kelso. Dennis was deceased at this time.

I have found a death notice in 1834 for a Dennis Shine Kelleher, artist in Lausanne, son of Matthew Kelleher of Cork, so I was hoping that a link could be found between Dennis Shine, artist, father of Catherine and Dennis Shine Kelleher who died in 1834 :)

Australia / Francis Reed arrived NSW 7th February 1836, what happened next?
« on: Thursday 18 February 16 10:57 GMT (UK)  »
Francis Reed, 55, butcher, arrived in NSW as a convict, on the ship Susan on 7th February 1836. He left behind a wife and children in Bristol. I have all the details of his life up to him arriving in Australia and his convict records. I live in the UK.

Can anyone point me in the right direction as to what happened to him?

The Common Room / Catherine Elizabeth Hopkins born Madras India 1875
« on: Friday 29 January 16 16:10 GMT (UK)  »
Not sure if this is the right board for Catherine so apologies if I have made a mistake.

I am trying to find her parents. I have her marriage certificate dated June 1898 Woolwich to Alfred Edmund Cotton. It states her father is Edward Hopkins, a private in Irish Fusiliers.

On 1911 Census Catherine is with Alfred in Burley in Wharfedale(her name is given as Kathleen), it gives her place of birth as Madras India. I haven't managed to find the birth yet :(

I don't know where or when Edward died or who his wife was. Any help to point me in the right direction would be much appreciated :)

The Common Room / William Henry Rawlins born 1861, music hall performer
« on: Monday 10 August 15 09:59 BST (UK)  »
I am trying to confirm family details for William Henry Rawlins born 1861. I am not looking for his parents or siblings just where he went after 1871 census, but specifically his marriage to Marie/Maria. I have no idea where this can have taken place or when.

I think I have him on 1881 census in Derby, as William H Rawlins age 19, born Camberwell, Surrey, a comedian.
1901 Census, William and Marie are in Glasgow.

Then on the 1891 Census I have a problem:

15 River St, Clerkenwell   RG12/228/25/43

Walter Rawlins, age 30, born Surrey, actor, Head
Marie Rawlins, 30, wife, born London City
Queenie Rawlins, daughter, age 4, born Leeds

Then in the same house ???
William Rawlins, age 30, actor, born London, boarder
Marie Rawlins, age 30, born London, boarder
Queenie Rawlins age 4, born Leeds, boarder

I have William and Marie going back and forth to USA as actor/comedian until 1920's. So I am assuming that that is why I can't find them on 1911 census, I thought this make give a hint to the year of their marriage. I have their deaths.

They are the parents of William Henry Rawlins born 1887 who died in Catterick on 10th November 1918. I have the Census/death details for him but not his birth. He wasn't born in Doncaster as his army records state but in London.

Is Queenie his sister? And what happened to her?

Sorry for this being such a lengthy request but any help would be greatly appreciated :)

United States of America / Pte John Mason from New York, died 1919 England
« on: Wednesday 01 July 15 11:17 BST (UK)  »
I am involved in a project that is researching the lives of 64 service personnel who died in WW1 and were buried at Hipswell Church, Catterick. I am looking for some more details about John Mason.

John Mason was aged 27 when died of cerebral meningitis on 23rd March 1919, Military Hospital, Catterick Camp.

His army no. 59245, he joined Royal Warwickshire Regt on 17th August 1918 at Dover.

From the records I have found he had married Mary Winstone on 1st September, 1915 in Astbury, New Jersey.

On his war record it states that his widow was living at 200 W 131st New York.

Can anyone help me to see if there were any children born to this marriage, what happened to Mary and what had John done before he joined the Army.

Thank you in advance for any help.

Can anything be done with really faded picture :-\

This is marriage photo of my great grandparents Frederick and Mary Dixon nee Bimson. They married in 1916 Carlisle.

The rear of the picture says: If found Please forward on to Mrs F Dixon, 20 Millom Terrace, Currock, Carlisle, Cumberland, Blighty.

Looks like it was taken overseas by Frederick. He came back from WW1 :)

Thank you.

Gloucestershire / Mary Ann Rice born 1795, living in Bristol, multiple marriages
« on: Sunday 30 March 14 10:30 BST (UK)  »
I have a Mary Ann who marries a number of times in Bristol. Have managed to find her later marriages but not her first one! So the following tale may be a bit long winded but will give background to the story :)

Mary Ann married Francis Reed in 1834 in Bristol, he was convicted the following year for sheep stealing and transported to NSW in 1836. Francis married three times!

She then married a Samuel Venn in 1837 in Bristol, I have her on 1841 Census with Samuel, their son, two of her daughters Elizabeth and Sarah Rice and three of the Reed boys. Two are Francis's from his marriage to Isabella Jones and William who is son between Francis and Mary Ann.

Mary Ann then married Robert Parfitt in 1849 in Bristol, got them on the following Census. Robert and Mary were witnesses on Elizabeth Rice's marriage to Thomas Reed in 1851 Bristol, looks like Elizabeth married her stepbrother as Thomas is a son of Francis Reed who was transported.

Can't find the marriage of Mary Ann to Thomas Rice or Thomas Rice death(Thomas is down as a bricklayer on daughter Elizabeth's marriage), and would like her maiden name. Would her maiden name be on her marriage to either Samuel or Robert?

I am assuming Thomas death will be between 1826 and 1834 when she marries Francis Reed, could anyone shed light on this too :)

Thanks.
