Hampshire & Isle of Wight / Cheverton of Newchurch and Brading
« on: Wednesday 03 August 16 08:13 BST (UK)  »
After many years of searching I have finally confirmed a family legend of a connection to the Isle of Wight :)  I have no knowledge of how the record situation for this area works - no idea where best to look.

I  have tracked them back to James Chiverton/Cheverton born 1742 to John and Grace in Newchurch.
1728 5 Sep John Cheverton married Grace White Brading.

I  have also come up with a will at the TNA Kew for a Grace Cheverton widow of Brading - not sure if it is too late to be the same Grace

Reference:   IR 26/412/13 - Abstract of Will of Grace Cheverton, Widow of Artingshote Farm in the parish of Brading Isle of Wight, Hampshire. Proved in the Court of Winchester January 30 1796

Any hints or advice as the best way to track down this family without having to travel gratefully accepted.

I am looking for any Squires from the Ashwellthorpe, Fundenhall, Wreningham, Flordon, Tasburgh area
from about 1750 to 1850.  I am trying to fit together the various families, with particular interest in the name Japhet which morphs to Jeffery.  This patch of parishes were not filmed by the LDS so aren't available through FreeREG and familysearch (except the pathcy ATs).

Any help appreciated.

I am trying to make sense of the Nottingham family in Stonesfield in the 1700s - if anyone has access to the records any instance of the Nottingham name would help.

Connected names may be Ball, Castle, Horne, Laughton, Jakes and Busby.

Thanks in advance,

Down / Quail of Downpatrick
« on: Saturday 05 November 11 09:45 GMT (UK)  »
Hi,

I am trying to track down James Quail born approx 1776 in Downpatrick.  He ended up in Manchester as a weaver, via a stint in the army and a posting to the West Indies.  I have no information about his parents or siblings.

My James married a Margaret (presumably soon after he left the army), and had a daughter Mary Ann in 1796/7 at Porta Down (from census records).

Whilst googling I have found mention of a William Quail (1754-1837) of Downpatrick who finally emigrated to USA in 1811.  He apparently had a bunch of children including James.  I am wondering if this might be my James's family given it the right sort of date.

I also found a burial of a John Quail of Downpatrick age 76 in 1785.

Another one suggests 3 brothers and a sister born in Downpatrick :
Edward Quaile (bapt 1777), Robert Orr Quaile, Vere Essex Qualie and Sophia (born 1785)

Any info gratefully received :)

London & Middlesex Lookup Requests / 1861 census Driscoll
« on: Thursday 25 March 10 12:18 GMT (UK)  »
hi Folks,

can anyone find any Jeremiah Driscolls born approx 1851, born either in St Giles area of maybe in Cork.

I have a Driscoll family living with a Dumprey family all from Cork in St Giles in 1851, and Jeremiah Driscoll living with a James Dempey in 1871 in St Giles.

I have neither in the 1861 census, and wondering if they may belong to the same family with Jeremiah born just after the 1851 census.  Can't find him in bmd.

thanks,
Julie

London & Middlesex Lookup Requests / Driscoll census 1891 lookup
« on: Thursday 25 March 10 11:07 GMT (UK)  »
Hi folks,

can anyone find these people for me please ?

Michael Driscoll of Ireland, Cork or maybe Clonakilty age approx 51
Kate Driscoll age 15   born St Giles, London
William Driscoll age 17 born St Giles London
Michael Driscoll age 22/3 born St Giles London

Thomas Hill age 34  from Cork

Michael the elder was a 47 Neal Street St Giles, Holborn (not such a desirable address !) in 1901, and his wife was buried in Jan 1891 from 45 Neal Street - so hopefully he will be hiding in that area.

Thomas Hill age 34  from Cork  - he was Michael's brother in law and was visiting him and his sister in the 1881 census.

Thanks,
Julie
