This subject has briefly been mentioned in previous threads, but I haven’t gone into much detail. One of my ancestors, Mary James, gave birth to a daughter called Avarina James (born March 23rd, 1854), later to be married to David Warrington. Another in specific certificate there is no mention of the father.

According to family gossip, Mary had a liaison with somebody she worked for, apparently from the Richardes family. I have been told that he was the second son, and he went off in the Navy or army, and possibly went to India.

I’m doing some research, I think the Man she possibly had a liaison with is called Roderick William Richards, of the Penglais estate in Aberystwyth.

Avarina before she married lived with her mother and father in waunfawr, in Aberystwyth. We have been told that she was given a property possibly through having her liaison, but unsure if this is true?

I’m wondering if there are any of the Richardes family on ancestry DNA, so I can see if there are any DNA links? The story could be hearsay, but it apparently has passed through the generations.

Of course there is no way of knowing, but it would be good to try and find out who Avarina‘s father was?

United States of America / Winifred Jones, family from Wales - where was she born?

My 2nd Great Grandfather Griffith Jones was born in Merthyr Tydfil, Wales. My Great-Grandfather Taliesin Jones was born in Treharris, even though for years we thought he was born in America.

His sister however, on the 1911 census from Wales is stated as being born in America. Her name was Winifred Jones.

We have no idea who Taliesin and Winifred's mother was, so I have (only now knowing that Taliesin was born in Wales and not America) ordered a birth certificate for him.

However, questions that are left unanswered. We know they were in America, possibly around 1890 -1895, not sure of exact years. I would like to know:

When did they depart for the States?
Where did they live?
Where was Winifred born?
When did they return to Wales?

Hopefully I can get a birth certificate for Taliesin and find the answer to who his mother is (not Elizabeth Jones who Griffith married as a second wife). Apparently we have American relatives, but most of the older generations have died so we have no idea who they are?

Griffith Jones did return to America in the 1900's, but there was no address and we don't know who he was visiting.

Hi,

Not been on here in a long time, so please don’t shout at me if I’m on the wrong forum (somebody did this once!).

I’m looking fir information on how to locate a grave. My great great grandmother died around 1884, aged 30. She was from Llanbardan Fawr I believe. The grave may no longer be there but a lot of the family come from this area and I may head downnfur a visit to check the place out. Would love to locate her grave if possible.

Where can I find the records for who were the innkeepers at this residence for 1851? For years my family were lead to believe that my ancestors ran the Old Black Lion in Aberystwyth but I've since found out this wasn't the case. My ancestors were called John and Theodocia Jones.

I have posted about this previously. My Great Great grandfather Griffith Jones arrived in America where his son (Taliesin) and daughter (Winifred) were born. We believe Pennsylvania. We don't know when Griffith originally entered America (he returned in 1906) or when he returned. Or whether his wife was American or welsh like him.

Our main questions are about Taliesin. He came back to Wales, but not sure if it was with his father or not. I cannot locate any birth records or passage records to Wales.

I am trying to find information on Emily Harford (nee Lee) and her husband John. We know they were from Cardiff and lived at 5 Cecil Street, Roath in 1885 when their daughter Eliza(beth) Jane was born. I have not been able to go any further back than this, though we do have Eliza's birth certificate and her grandmother's name was E.Lee of Splott Farm, Roath.

I am on the trail of Griffith Jones (DOB: est 1856-57) from Merthyr, Wales and his son Taliesin (DOB: est 1887). Griffith travelled to America where his son Taliesin and Winifred (1892) were born, though we are not sure of any other children.

I know Griffith returned to Wales with his son and daughter, but what I am researching is the following:

Who, when, and where did Griffith marry? (we know she died and is buried in America)
What date and where was Taliesin born? (We have been told Philadelphia?)
When did they come back to Wales and when did Griffith first go to America?

I have records of Griffith's journey to America in 1906 after his second wife Elizabeth died.

I am looking for the whereabouts of Griffith Jones, from Merthyr, Wales, born 1857 between the years of 1881-1901. I believe he travelled to America where his son Taliesin was born between this time. I don't know if he had any other children there, but I know he travelled back there in 1906 when his second wife died. I want to find out:

1) Who his wife was (first marriage).
2) Where was Taliesin born? (We have been told Philadelphia).
3) When did Griffith and Taliesin return to Wales?
4) Are there any of their relatives in America now?

I am researching the family history of my Great Great Grandfather Griffith Jones, born around 1857 to William and Mary Jones. I believe he went to America where my Great Grandfather Taliesin was born.

I have tried to find out if he was married in Wales before he went, but I believe his wofe died in America and was buried there. He returned to Wales with Taliesin.

I am looking to see if there are any relatives in America, or anybody who has anymore information on Griffith or Taliesin. I know Griffith returned to America in 1906 after his second wife died, but he did return to Wales.
