Armagh / Unusual request for photograph of a doorstep!
« on: Saturday 07 November 20 10:45 GMT (UK)  »
Hi, my grandmother was Mary Cannon from Meenacarn, Letermacaward County Donegal. She had 10 brothers. At some stage over 100 years ago some of the brothers got hold of a large flat stone and engraved it with the words HOME SWEET HOME. THERE IS NO PLACE LIKE HOME. It was then embedded in the ground at the front door of the cottage. To cut a long story short, I am aware the stone was relocated from the cottage to a new build house in or around the village of Forkhill, County Armagh. To be very clear, this is not an attempt to 'reclaim' the stone. On the contrary, I am delighted the stone found a new lease of life in front of what I assume is a lively, vibrant home. What I would love is a good quality scan of the stone so I can forward it to distant cousins in America who are aware of the story of the stone. If anyone knows the location of this stone, I would be most grateful if you could let the owner know of my request.

Thank you.

Hi, I was wondering if anyone can turn up an obituary for Hugh M Gallagher of Bridgeport Connecticut. He died on 19th February 1995 aged 75. His wife was named Anne. He was the son of Hugh Gallagher senior. He was born on 5th January 1920.

Thank you.

Tyrone / Hugh Cannon Died Omagh area 26th January 1969
« on: Friday 18 September 20 12:48 BST (UK)  »
I have been researching my Grandmother's family, the Cannon family, from Lettermacaward, County Donegal for some time. She had 10 brothers. I have gathered  information on all but one brother, Hugh Cannon, born in 1890. I have come across a family document from the 1970s which says Hugh ,(deceased by then), lived in Northern Ireland. The Hugh Cannon who died in Omagh district in 1969 was aged 78, which ties in with a birth year of 1890. I was wondering if anyone can turn up a death notice ,obituary, etc on this Hugh Cannon which would indicate if he was originally from Lettermacaward in Donegal and would therefore be 'my' Hugh Cannon.

United States of America / Neal, John and Tim Gallagher - What was their father's name?
« on: Thursday 03 September 20 10:08 BST (UK)  »
I believe an earlier generation of my Gallagher line (of which I was previously unaware ) emigrated to USA in 1850/1860s.
They were Neal (Neil), John and Tim(othy) Gallagher. They settled in Oakland, California via Philadelphia. Because the surname is so common I need to establish their father's forename before I investigate them further. I have been unable to establish their father's name and would appreciate help in doing so.
John and Tim remained unmarried, but Neal Married Elizabeth Crosson on Sept 11th 1876 and had 8 children.
Neal died August 23rd 1925.
Tim died June 29th 1899.
Not sure when John died but he was still alive in 1900 as he appears on the 1900 census living with Neal and his family.
All 3 brothers seem to have lived their entire (Californian) lives in one street, namely Telegraph Avenue, Oakland.
Here's hoping someone can find their father's forename.

Hi, I am trying to find as many children as possible born to my great grandparents. When I select the 'more search options' choice I enter my great grandfather's surname, leave the 'first and middle names' section blank, tick the birth event, enter the time range I am interested in,enter the relevant civil registration district and finally enter my great grandmother's maiden name. I then hit the search button. I am expecting to see the names of the children I already know about returned and hopefully a couple I don't know about. But it is always the same outcome 'No results found' Is it just the case that this facility does not work or am I doing something wrong?

Donegal / Dominick Cannon - Year and place of death?
« on: Saturday 22 June 19 11:35 BST (UK)  »
Hi, Dominick Cannon was born 12th June 1908 at Meenacarn, Lettermacaward, County Donegal  to John Cannon and Sheelah ( aka Sisely, Cecilia) McHugh Cannon. He was present at his parents' deaths in 1937 and 1939. I cannot find a record of his death in Ireland. He may have followed some of his brothers to Scotland after his parents died. Any help finding his year and place of death would be great.

Hi, I have a digital 'colour' copy of a photograph which was taken in 1911 and was originally black and white.I have seen the original black and white photo and in my opinion it is  much superior. Is there anyone on this forum who could return my photo to black and white?

I remember being told that my great uncle, who had already settled in Brooklyn, took in dozens of people from his part of rural Ireland when they first arrived in New York.Is there any way of interrogating column 19 of the New York passenger arrival lists to find out how many times a particular address is recorded, either on the Ellis Island or Familysearch versions of passenger lists?

Thank you.
