London and Middlesex / Lookups for Samuel Gascoyne
« on: Sunday 28 May 23 11:08 BST (UK)  »
Samuel Gascoyne has been a bit tricky to research. In his census returns the Gascoyne spelling varies & his christian name has been Godfrey or Godfrey M S Gascoygne. He was born Chesterfield, Derbyshire in 1858, parents Samuel & Dorothy. He married in South Normanton in 1889 to a widow Elvina Shirley. They moved to London Greenwich abt.1891 & later Lewisham where  his wife died in 1916. He may have died in 1944 Wandsworth, London. To confirm this 1921 & 1939 census' searches would help to find what happened to him. Thanks for any help on this. Adjer

Lavinia Hicks born: 21 May 1873, Great Preston, near Allerton Bywater. Trying to find the Christian name of her mother. Mothers Surname was Roberts. Father was John Hicks, 1835-1905, a widower in 1881. I think I need a look-up for the burial of her mother which may be in the church records of  St, Mary the Less, Allerton Bywater. If this fails, then churches in Castleford or Pontefract. The burial date should be between 1873 & 1881 & her age at death, late 30's to late 40's. Have not found any marriage record & she is not in census' 1861 or 1871. Thank you, Adjer.

Yorkshire (West Riding) Lookup Requests / Burial registered Rotherham
« on: Friday 19 March 21 16:23 GMT (UK)  »
Looking for place & date of death of one of my Great Grandmothers. Her name was Hannah Woodward born Newton in 1817. She last appeared on the 1891 census living in Hunshelf, near Stocksbridge, South Yorkshire. The only registered date of death I have found that fits her details, is Rotherham 1900 age 83. Stocksbridge is not part of the Rotherham reg. district so I do not want to buy the BMD certificate as it is unlikely to be her death record. If someone can look-up this burial, place, date I would be obliged. Nb. Catliffe parish has a remote connection to her family. Thanks, Adjer.

Nottinghamshire Lookup Requests / Lookup needed for Richard Gasking
« on: Saturday 26 August 17 14:34 BST (UK)  »
One of my earliest ancestors was Richard Gasking/Gaskin who married Bridget Jepson in South Normanton on Notts/ Derbys border 22 Jan 1716. Richard was born in Norton Nottinghamshire. The nearest churches to Norton, are Cuckney & Carburton. I would like to find the his birth date & parents names.
Also I am interested in the Jepson family. Bridget's parents are William & Ann. William may have been born in 1662 in South Normanton.

« on: Friday 20 June 14 16:07 BST (UK)  »
Hello,
I am trying to find the port of entry to America in 1881 & 1882 for one of my Great Grandfathers who abandoned his pregnant wife & family (13 children born in Newbold, Derbyshire) and went to America.(family stories & a press report). His name is William Bradley born Dudley, Worcestershire, in April 1841. (miner then a grocer). I am not sure what America meant in 1881. It could mean just USA or USA & Canada.I would like a look up please for any ship travelling from England to America in 1881 & 1882 with William Bradley age 40 on board. Thanks to any one who can help with this problem.

Family History Beginners Board / Burials for Arkwright Town residents abt, 1900
« on: Tuesday 27 May 14 14:58 BST (UK)  »
I am searching for the burial place of my grandmother Mary Ann Gascoigne who was buried 29 Nov 1906. She lived in a mining community in N.E.Derbyshire called Arkwright Town. The family were Non-conformists. There was a Primitive Meths' Chapel in Arkwright but it had no burial ground. The most likely places for burial were nearby Calow or Sutton cum Duckmanton. Find My Past says Dronfield but Family Search says Sutton cum Duckmanton. I would like a lookup for any of these possibilites, thank you. Adjer.
