Canada / REID (Read, Reed) in Simcoe Co. Ontario
« on: Friday 26 October 12 14:42 BST (UK)  »
I'm researching the family of Joseph REID and his wife Margaret Boyd. They are found in the 1861 census for Rama, Simcoe Co. Ontario aged 60, weaver (Joseph) and wife Margaret age 35. Both born Ireland.

i have reason to believe that Joseph was married previously to Roseanne Brown and had at least two sons (robert and Dickson/Dixon) both born Co. Tyrone Ireland.

Joseph disappears from census records between 1861 and 1871 but so far no death record has turned up. If he died before 1869 it is in the period when death registration was not in place.

Basically I hope to find out more about Joseph's origins in Ireland. I believe his 2nd wife Margaret was part of the Boyd family from Kilea, Co. Derry, Ireland. No proof and I'm still working on finding more.

Joseph's dob is circa 1801, died 1862-1871.
Margaret was born ca 1824 died 1885 in Simcoe Co. I believe her parents may have been john Boyd & Esther/Essie Coates.

Children all born Ontario:
Henry md Elizabeth Heavener
Joseph James md Christina/Christie McInnes/McGinnis
Jane md Joshua Switzer
Esther md. Thomas Boyd s/o John Boyd & Esther Coates
Adam md Laura Emma Walker

Any info appreciated!

Durham / Fred Lee & Jessie Clarke
« on: Saturday 01 May 10 03:24 BST (UK)  »
I am looking for parents of Fred Lee and Jessie Clarke.

All I know about them is that Fred was 20 years old at his marriage to Jsessie in August 1940 in Durham. He was at that time a Private in the Somerset Light Infantry. NO parents names are given for him, just  a straight horizontal line. Does that mean he didn't know who they were?

He and Jessie were living at 13 Gomer Terrace, Bishop Auckland.

Jessie gave her age as 21 and her father's name George Clarke, painter and Decorator.

I do know from Ships Passenger Lists that Jessie was born Nov. 20, 1919 but have no clue where.

From family stories and births in FREE BMD children of this marriage were

Moderator Comment:  Names of people who may be still alive removed.

Some time between 1950 and 1955 the family came to Ontario Canada. I have Jessie and 3 of her children returning to England, to Scarboro in 1960 planning to stay 5 months

Fred and Jessie are my twin grandchildren's great grandparents but their grandfather was estranged from their g-grandfather so nothing is known of him. Any suggestions would be most appreciated

World War Two / Somerset Light Infantry - Fred Lee
« on: Saturday 01 May 10 03:13 BST (UK)  »
Hello

I am researching my twin grandchildren's ancestry and have managed to get back to Fred Lee b ca 1920. His 1940 marriage record to Jessie Clarke in Durham Co. England shows as his rank or profession

Private no. 5679489 in Somerset Light Infantry (General Labourer)

He and Jessie are shown as living at 13 Gomer Terrace, Bishop Auckland. Unfortunately the space for his parents' names is blank!

I live in Canada and have never tried to find WW2 service records. How would I go about it? I've been to the National Archives for UK website and read their leaflets but honestly am no further ahead in understanding IF the records exist and how to obtain them

Thanks for any help!

Dunbartonshire / Richard Pemberton b. 1818 Dumbarton
« on: Friday 09 November 07 23:12 GMT (UK)  »
Seeking parents of Richard Pemberton b ca 1818 in Dumbarton Scotland. He married Martha Westerman and by 1851 is found in the Yorkshire census. He was consistently listed as a glass bottle maker in all census records.

In 1851 he is listed twice, one in Hunslet  Yorkshire with his wife and daughter + his mother in law Elizabeth Westerman, but also in Lanarkshire   Scotland as a visitor in the home of James Headridge 36  and wife Margaret.

Is anyone else familiar with Richard? I haven't found him with certainty in 1841. He died between 1881 and 1891 probably in Hunslet Yorkshire

Yorkshire (West Riding) / Seeking Pemberton, Wormald & Hill Hunslet Yorkshire
« on: Friday 09 November 07 23:03 GMT (UK)  »
I am looking for ancestors of Susan Pemberton b ca 1853 Hunselt Yorkshire who married Richard HILL b ca 1849 Kings Lynn, Norfolk

Susan's father was, I believe, Richard Pemberton of Scotland, her mother Martha Westerman of Wakefield Yorkshire

I don't know Martha's or Richard's parents

Richard & Susan (Pemberton) Hill had a son Rowland Hill b ca 1881 who md Kate Wormald, d/o George, a coalminer. I cannot find Kate in any cencus records. All I know of her is that she was born ca 1881 perhaps in Pontefract.

At Kate's wedding to Rowland in 1905 she is listed as " 23, spinster living Loyd Place Northowram"

Her father George was deceased at the time of her marriage. The only George Wormald I find in the census who is a coalminer, does not have a daughter Kate in the household. I'm at a complete loss as to how to find Kate's birth, her father (George) and mother (name unknown)

Thanks for any help or suggestions
