Handwriting Deciphering & Recognition / Translation Request - German
« on: Tuesday 02 August 22 01:14 BST (UK)  »

I was sent an old album from a relative.  This photo had detached at some point from its glued down spot in the book and has a note written in German.  My mom (who speaks/writes some German) wasn’t able to translate it.
Hoping someone can assist!

Thank you.

Handwriting Deciphering & Recognition / Italian to English translations
« on: Thursday 24 December 20 02:59 GMT (UK)  »
Hello and Merry Christmas!

I recently got my hands on some Italian marriage records.  I can make out a few words but the rest I'm hopeless with.  Wondering if there is a kind soul out there who would take a crack at translating into English for me?

Antrim / Ballymena - Thompson - Brickwalls?
« on: Tuesday 01 September 20 21:46 BST (UK)  »
I found a marriage record for my 4th great Grandparents John Thompson and Ann Jane Bell - who married in 1816 in Glenavy (he was from Connor and her from Glenavy Parish).  No parents are listed on the marriage - just the date.  I know that's not uncommon for that time period BUT is there a chance there is more info available? If so, where? Is it possible to get beyond this much larger brickwall?

Marriage Date - 25 Feb 1816, Glenavy CI

Assumptions would put them born around 1780-1790ish.

They had Henry (1820-1888), Thomas (1825-1898 - my ancestor), Adam (1830-1888), Isabella (1831-1903), Elizabeth (1832-1905), James (1835-1910), Sarah (1840-1898) and Margaret (1845-1906).

John died 1866 in Galgorm - I have this death record, and articles regarding his death (suicide), Ann Jane died 1870.  Her death lists her birth at 1803, which would have only made her 13 at her marriage...

Would love some thoughts on where to go now!  I'm stumped.

I've done Ancestry DNA - I have matches with descendants from John's son Henry - which is helpful but not!

Yorkshire (West Riding) / Cain - Halifax Union Workhouse
« on: Saturday 11 January 20 00:05 GMT (UK)  »
Hello All,

I've been researching a branch of my husband's tree for several years which has hit a very stubborn brickwall.

Sarah Ann Cain was born abt 1852 and is listed as an inmate in 1861 at the Halifax Union Workhouse.  On the same page is a William Thomas Cain born abt 1856.  I found a death record for William in 1864 who died at the workhouse and has a Mother's maiden name of Draper.  I found several Draper/Cain combinations for births, but none for marriage.

I wrote to the West Yorkshire Archives to see if any intake records exist from that time period.  Sarah Ann married in 1876 to Northen Booth and has no parents listed on her marriage certificate. I have the marriage details and as much as I could find to present.

I've looked through F.M.P, Ancestry and FreeBMD to see if I can find a connection between Sarah & William and if I can find their parents.  Would love some advice on where to go next, or if someone has dealt with Workhouse records in that area previously.

Any help, suggestions at all would be greatly appreciated!

Europe / Record Translation - German to English
« on: Tuesday 03 December 19 00:31 GMT (UK)  »
Hello!

I'm hoping to get some help translating the lower section of this death record.  I "believe" it's the marriage date for the parents?

I've attached the entire document and the close up the area I'm looking for a translation on.

Many thanks!

Antrim / Antrim - John Thompson & Ann Bell
« on: Saturday 09 November 19 15:49 GMT (UK)  »
Hello All!

I've come across a marriage record for 1816 for a couple that could possibly be my g-g-g-grandparents.  This came off the "RootsIreland" website and doesn't provide much information beyond the date and their names.  Would there be more typically? If so, how do I go about getting a copy?
Or is this just the "end" of the line?

Thanks!

Ancestral Family Tree DNA Testing / Shared Matches between Mother & Daughter
« on: Saturday 25 November 17 20:08 GMT (UK)  »
Hello All,

I had both my DNA and my Mom’s done through Ancestry.  I’ve noticed as I start going through the matches some of them aren’t on my list.  One for example is 5th to 8th cousin’s with my Mom but isn’t connected to me at all.

Thoughts?

Useful Links / Scanning / Photographing Software (APP)
« on: Monday 30 October 17 15:12 GMT (UK)  »
Hello All!

Found this neat app for my phone (can be for apple or android) that you can photograph pages from an album without removing the photos.

https://www.photomyne.com/features

I had several smaller albums given to me by a family member that had the photos glued in (horrible thing) and they wouldn't scan properly on a flat bed or my bar scanner.  This app worked fabulously!! I was able to photograph over 500 photos in a little over an hour!

Might be worth checking out for those who have similar situations.

Europe / German Marriage Records
« on: Monday 06 March 17 02:47 GMT (UK)  »
Hello All,

Where would be my best chances of finding a marriage record for a marriage that took place sometime in the early 1920's?  Where the marriage most likely took place is now Poland, but at the time it was Germany.

I'm located in Canada, so I'm hoping for a way to do it online.. if possible.  Are there websites that I'm missing in my searches that could have these records?

Thanks,
Ais
