Canada / Canada census
« on: Tuesday 19 December 23 01:35 GMT (UK)  »
Not sure if this has already been noted. Library and Archives Canada have updated their free searchable census records to include 1931. It was inititially available earlier this year, but the new update replaces the temporary database of images.

Staffordshire / Parents of Fanny CRUMP 1783-1814
« on: Thursday 14 September 23 11:03 BST (UK)  »
Many years ago when I started researching my family, I seemed to make an assumption that looking at now I think may be incorrect.

I have Fanny (Frances) CRUMP married to Thomas WALTERS 5 Feb 1804 at St Martin, Tipton by banns. Witnesses - John LAWLEY and Henry HORTON. She is buried 24 March 1814 at St Leonard, Bilston aged 31, so born c1783.

There is a Fanney CRUMP baptised at St Peter, Wolverhampton 15 Nov 1783, parents John and Sarah. Not sure why, when I first looked at this family I thought her parents were John CRUMP and Sarah PHILIPS who married 28 April 1771 at St Peter, Wolverhampton. However, there is also a John CRUMP and Sarah MORGAN who married 22 May 1781 at St Peter, Wolverhampton.

I haven't been able to find a will for either John CRUMP. Can anyone suggest how to solve this dilemma (without looking at dna)?

In response to Carol's request for work, here is the only photograph my mother had of her father. He was a fireman on ships, I think the background looks like it could have been taken on a ship, not sure. Anyway, just a light clean would be lovely. I like old photographs to look old, not like they were taken yesterday, or too fake looking (with no offense intended, everyone has different tastes).

Many thanks in advance.

Australia / phone numbers in 1920s
« on: Monday 22 August 22 02:07 BST (UK)  »
I have been researching some of the houses that appear in my family photo albums, most often these are just given names rather than addresses, as was quite common at the time. Some were where my family lived, others are houses of friends.

My grandmother's family definitely lived at "Westella" (on Bondi Rd, Bondi) and I have seen advertisements on trove placed by my g grandfather with a phone number "Waverley 710". Another house "Inyati" (Waverley St, Bondi Junction) is in the albums, and again on trove a little later there are advertisements which give the same phone number "Waverley 710" (though no family names). Is it safe to assume do you think that this was also a house that the family lived in at one time?  I am surprised that phone number portability was possible in the late 1910s/early 1920s.

Any opinions or comments most welcome.  :)

Hello, so many talented restorers here have worked on a few of my family photos with such lovely results, if anyone has time I would really appreciate a light clean on this photo of my grandmother and uncle Grace and Warwick KELLS.

Many thanks in advance.

Free Photo Restoration & Date Old Photographs / Peter Smith for restoration
« on: Wednesday 10 August 22 02:54 BST (UK)  »
Such lovely work on the last photo I posted for restoration - thanks to all. If anyone is still looking for something to work on, here's another. I have mentioned this photo in another thread, as it has a threepence inside the frame along with the photograph of my father Peter SMITH (1931-2010).

If any one could clean it up that would be lovely, feel free to leave the coin in the picture - it's part of the charm.  :)
