Armed Forces / Mafikeng. North Lancs grave markers.
« on: Saturday 31 December 16 16:18 GMT (UK)  »
Hi
While finding (Pte J Lomas (DoD 16/01/1902) my Great Uncle's grave at Mafikeng, my daughter also  found markers for 2 other members of the North Lancs: Pte Maddell DoD 06/07/1901 and Drmr Lowe DoD 15/01/1902.
They are too large for attachments.  Unless the site allows PhotoHosting site links.
If anyone is researching them I can let them have copies

Shropshire / wyncholme, ketley.

hi
Does anyone have any info about the above address?

It has cropped up on a document relating to an ex PoW just returned from the far east in 1946.
Could it have been a recuperation hospital, possibly in a country house?
I have looked at old maps for the area but haven't found it.

The Common Room / Death Certificate Section 7b
« on: Saturday 08 May 10 22:43 BST (UK)  »
Hi
We have a couple of DCs which instead of having the status (ie widow) in section 7b; have the words "Causing the body to be cremated (or burned).
Onee of them appeared to be notified by a Nursing home employee the other informant appears to have no obvious connection to either the family or the place of death.

Has anyone else noticed such things and know of any reasons?

Gloucestershire / Double entry 1911
« on: Thursday 22 January 09 20:26 GMT (UK)  »
Hi
1911 has thrown up a nice little item for me.
My maternal grandmother's sister's son actually appears in 2 places.
He is shown at 48 Springfield Rd. Horfield as nephew with my widower Grandfather, his unmarried sister-in-law as housekeeper and 4 children and also at 40 Freeland Buildings as son along with his parents and 4 siblings.

Hi
Is anybody able to get on their forum site, read messages and post on it?

I have found it no longer has any messages showing and when I tried to post I just got an error message.

An email to the site via their own links was returned undeliverable.

Wiltshire Lookup Requests / Malmesbury Baptism C1796
« on: Thursday 16 August 07 19:44 BST (UK)  »
Hi
I am looking for baptismal records for John Bishop C1796 at or near Malmesbury.
I know he married in 1826 in Gloucestershire N. Nibley and lived there subsequently.

I don't have any clues as to Parents names I am afraid.

Cheshire / Missing Pass 1891 Census
« on: Tuesday 03 July 07 21:56 BST (UK)  »
Hi
My G Grand Mother’s brother’s daughter, Catherine Jane Hopkins married Samuel Pass in Stroud, June 1893.

I have found him in  the following census’s
1871 aged 6    Witton (Cheshire)
1881 aged 15  Witton (Cheshire)
1901 aged 36  Cainscross (Gloucester)

The ages fit correctly with the age on their Marriage cert. At the time of the marriage he was a Coach Builder, by the 1901 census he was a Life Insurance agent

His father was Thomas Dawson Pass Coach Builder and I have found him not only on the above census yrs but also in 1891 (Poulton Lancs) he also seems to have been somewhat unlucky in that his father seems to have had 3 different wives on the 3 different census’s ’71 ’81 ’91.

BUT
I can’t find Samuel anywhere in 1891

Can anyone else find him or suggest a reason for him not being on the 1891.

I have posted on the Glouc's page as well

Armed Forces / Uniform Identity please
« on: Saturday 10 March 07 19:11 GMT (UK)  »
HHi
I just wondered if anyone can identify/date this uniform. The one with the Glengarry
It is believed to be my G/fathers brother, he reputedly didn't return from the Great War but he doesn't appear in any of the lists of casualties/missing presumed dead/deaths that we have found, also he was born in 1881 so looks a bit young to be a WW1 soldier.
Could he have been in the second Boer War? Does the uniform support that possibility?

The 2nd photo is an enlargement of the cap badge which I have twisted slightly using editing software to square it up
