Family History Beginners Board / Alice Hully
« on: Sunday 01 January 23 20:33 GMT (UK)  »
Thanks to help from Rootschat I am progressing with my family tree and discovering that family stories aren't necessarily true!
My latest is the death of the above lady, age 50 in 1921. Supposedly she was in a road accident and killed. They lived in Pendlebury at the time but my great gran said the accident was at St. Michaels bridge.......wherever that may be...where Alice was in a cart and the horse bolted tossing her over the bridge. I have looked in newspaper archives but so far have found nothing to prove or disprove this 'story'.
Any suggestions would be  appreciated.
Happy New Year too!

Family History Beginners Board / Hull(e)y family of Swinton or Pendlebury or Salford
« on: Saturday 31 December 22 10:47 GMT (UK)  »
Hello,
I am trying to sort out another branch of the family....Gladys Hull(e)y who married Vincent Howarth in 1934.
It is the Hully family who are elusive as I understand the mother of Gladys died young and the children were handed out to various family members....Gladys living in Hornby for a few years. She had several sisters: Florence, Joan and May amongst them. Gladys was born in the early 1900s I think. They were Roman Catholics and at some point they had a butchers shop in Swinton.
I wonder if anyone can help me further this very sketchy history?

Family History Beginners Board / Robert Worthington
« on: Saturday 19 March 22 16:14 GMT (UK)  »
Hello,
My ancestor Robert Worthington was born in Much Hoole on 19th Sept 1788. I am trying to work out if he married Ellen Parkinson at St. Leonards, Walton le Dale in 1814 or Ellen Cunliff at St. Laurence, Chorley. Can anybody help? Their first child as far as I am aware was Richard born 1815, in Preston.
Nor can I find a record of his death anywhere which must have been between 1861 and 1871.
His wife Ellen died in 1864 and was buried in St. Johns Preston.
I await in hope.

Hello,
My great grandfather lived in Hollinwood and was a police constable for at least 30 years.(1881-1901 census information). His name was Peter Whitehead, born 1855, died 1901. I cannot find him on Lancashire Police force records...is there any other way of finding out about him?
Thank you.

Family History Beginners Board / Ralph Whitehead
« on: Friday 04 September 20 15:49 BST (UK)  »
Hello,
My grandfather Ralph Whitehead was born in Hollinwood in 1880. I have just found a photograph of him in army uniform, which is a complete surprise to me as I had no idea he had served in WW1.
He has 1 stripe on his sleeve but the photograph is too small to make out any insignia.
During WW1 he lived in either Oldham or Birkenhead. Is there any way I can find out more with such a scarcity of information?

Family History Beginners Board / Westhulme Hospital, Oldham
« on: Tuesday 04 August 20 08:37 BST (UK)  »
Hello,
I have several members of my family who died in Westhulme Fever Hospital, Oldham in 1909.
However when I search for further information regarding the hospital, it doesn't appear to have
been a hospital until 1929. Can anyone enlighten me? Also is it possible to obtain any records of patients in those days?
Thank you ....in anticipation.

The Common Room / Ralph Whitehead, Lancashire
« on: Saturday 18 January 20 15:33 GMT (UK)  »
Hello,
I am hoping someone can tell where my ancestor, Ralph Whitehead married in the 1850s. His wife was Ann, but I do not know her maiden name. Their children include Peter, born 1855, John, born 1859....both baptised at St. Margaret's, Hollinwood. I understand Ralph himself was baptised at St. Mary's Prestwich in 1829 but can find no record of his marriage anywhere. Have I got Whitehead's mixed up?

Hello,
I am trying to find out when Robert Worthington was born....he married Margery Katon in 1755 at St. Michael, Hoole but I can't find Robert's birth anywhere. I know the Worthington family were in Much Hoole a long time before this date so any information regarding the family would be most welcome. :)
