Family History Beginners Board / Dainty/Flower birth
« on: Sunday 28 March 21 18:47 BST (UK)  »
I am trying to find the birth of Henry William Dainty.  He was born abt 1851, mother Sarah Flower born in possibly Frome or Bath or Coombe Martin.  She married a James Dainty on 8 Nov 1852 in Lambeth.  So possibly Henry William is not his son.  Sarah was born abt 1834 and her father is John Flower, according to the marriage register.  Henry William has also been documented as William Henry Dainty.  I think maybe he was not James Dainty's son as I cannot find a baptism or birth index.  I have looked under Flower too but nothing.
Any help greatly appreciated.

Ross & Cromarty / Mcleod/Mcleans Lochbroom
« on: Sunday 12 April 20 13:27 BST (UK)  »
Hi
I am really struggling with my friends family tree.  Margaret Mcleod married a Robert Burnett Watson.
Margaret born 1860:
Name Margaret Mc Leod Gender Female Birth Date21 Jun 1860 Birth Place Lochbroom,Ross and Cromarty,Scotland Father Angus Mc LeodMotherAnabella Mc Lean FHL Film Number6035516 .

I think she had siblings: Catherine Mcleod b1854, Kenneth Mcleod 1855, Murdo Mcleod, 1858, Simon Mcleod 1862, Norman Mcleod 1856, Alexander Mcleod 1869.

I cannot find the mothers death, Annabella Mcleod she was  in the 1871 census but not 1881.
I cannot find a marriage for Angus and Annabella first son born 1855 so guessing around this time.

Also my friend says that the family came from Isle of Lewis but I cannot find anything that suggests that at all.
I think if I could find the marriage for Angus and Annabella maybe it would come together.

any suggestion please.

I have been looking of Scotlands People but do not find it easy to locate people as you have to pay just to look at the file and a couple of times I have paid and got the wrong person!  Or am I doing that wrong too.  ::) :-\

Thanks Sue

Family History Beginners Board / Divorced or Died
« on: Friday 30 March 18 20:26 BST (UK)  »
Eliza Ann Paulina Coleman born 1848 Bristol married Henry Martin Wooster in 1867, he passed away in 1875.  She remarried William Isaac Groom in 1876.  In the 1881 census they are living together, then he disappears and in the 1891 census she is living with Josiah James and callling herself Eliza James.
Then in 1895 she married Josiah.
Which to me means William IG Davis must have died between 1881 and 1891 however I cannot find a death for him and on other peoples family trees on ancestry they have him as dying somewhere in France in 1914, but there are no sources to substantiate this claim.

I have looked up divorces and found nothing and cannot find a death for him either.

I am going to look on the National Archives for a divorce next but any help would be great.

Thank you

Family History Beginners Board / 46 Ouseley Road Balham
« on: Monday 19 March 18 15:27 GMT (UK)  »
My mother was born in 1935 at 46 Ouseley Road, when I googled this address it is a house but is attached to St James's Hospital.  So I assumed it was the maternity wing.

7 years later in 1928 my great grandfather died at 46 Ouseley Road, he fell out of a window.  Inquest verdict was 'Open'.  I cannot find any newspaper articles of the inquest or the fall anywhere.  Does anyone know any of the history of this house?  I have obviously looked up the 'Lost Hospitals' web site and have a little information.  Does anyone know where I might find the Inquest documents if there are any?

Thanks

Family History Beginners Board / Question about Marriage Certificates and Banns
« on: Sunday 04 February 18 14:06 GMT (UK)  »
Hi

This may seem a dim question  - if you have a copy of the Banns for a marriage is it worth getting the actual marriage certificate?  The reason I am asking is I have two that I could order but there seems all the info on the Banns that I think I need.

Thanks

Sue
