Buteshire / west side high street Rothesay
« on: Saturday 25 March 23 13:51 GMT (UK)  »
John McLean and Isobel Thomson (or Thomas) married 1818
children Christian, John, James and Angus
1819, 1821, 1823 and 1826.
I hired a genealogist from Scotland to look into the son Angus but she did not find this family in any census. Just an 1820 Examination Roll parish of Rothesay - crossed out
“a household identified on ‘West Side High Street’ containing John M’Lean, Isobel M’Thomas and Christian M’Lean. This was likely John McLean, his wife Isobel and their eldest child. “
I’m not sure where I can go from here.

Inverness / Maclure dna Glenelg

MACLURE dna
I would be willing to pay the costs for a male Maclure to have their dna tested who is descended from someone in the Glenelg area . I could not accept Skye as it is thought Maclures from there are not related to those on the mainland. If someone matches me then that in itself could prove we are not related to Skye.
It is believed my ancestor left with Alexander Macleod in 1793 on "the Argyll"
I could only afford one test.

Family History Beginners Board / Maclean, Outer Hebrides maybe.
« on: Tuesday 03 January 17 12:39 GMT (UK)  »
I am looking for Alexander Maclean and wife
with sons John and Angus and a female.
They lived on Prince Edward Island, Canada in 1798 census. (There were also two John Macleans)
They most likely came from South Uist
area around 1790.
Others who came  were names Walker, McDonald, MacPhee, MacCormack

It is believed they travelled with priest
Angus Maceachern (later Bishop of Pei)
whose family already settled Pei in 1772 with laird John Macdonald of Glenaladale.

Thanks
Rod

Family History Beginners Board / Glen Donald McDonald, Garry?
« on: Monday 21 December 15 14:27 GMT (UK)  »
Hi, I wish to find info on a Donald or Glen Donald McDonald whose children left Scotland for Pei Canada in the late 1700s early 1800s. He was from Garry or Caledonia canal.
Children Major John, Donald known as Awgh Young, Hector and Allan and several girls whose names I don't have.
Major John McDonald was a great piper. He married a Margaret McLean . The McLeans had come to the Island around the same time as did many of the McDonalds.
Three children were born before Major came. Donald died on passage at the age of two years.
Thanks,
Rod

1819, 1821, 1823 and 1826.

I'm trying to determine if this could be the same Angus who shows up on the 1881 census for Pei Canada.
The Pei Angus was married to Sarah McGillivray bef 1855 with daughter Isabella born on Pei.

Inverness / Mckenzies emigrated to Pei , Canada
« on: Sunday 18 January 15 21:52 GMT (UK)  »
Hi,
I'm looking for Mckenzies who left Scotland in 1858 and settled the same area of Prince Edward Island. They are all listed together on the Canada 1881 census Murdoch 49, Norman 47, Malcolm 37, Donald 40. It is believed they are brothers. They may have left Scotland with Alexander McLure and Catherine McDonald who also arrived 1858.
Thankyou,
Rod McLure
