Ancestral Family Tree DNA Testing / DNA puzzle
« on: Sunday 18 March 18 00:55 GMT (UK)  »
Hope someone can help me with explanation of below.

I have X match with 3 sisters. My brother has X match with one of them.

The common ancestors are the 4 x gt grandparents of the sisters and the 3 x gt grandparents of my brother and I in England. We are now in Australia and the sisters in the USA.

The ancestors are on my father's direct male line and my brother and I still have that surname.

My brother and I are from the son of our 3 x gt g/parents and the 3 sisters are from a brother and sister of those ancestors (their 4 x gt g/ parents) - 3 siblings of the 3 x and 4 x gt g/parents.

For the 3 sisters a daughter of the male sibling married a son of the female sibling and their daughter married a man (the gt grandfather of the sisters) whose surname is the maiden name of the 3 sisters.

Given X is suposed to come from our mother or our father's mother I don't understand the X matches we have.

I hope someone can explain, please.

Ireland Resources / Griffiths and VAL/2 series
« on: Thursday 15 February 18 01:36 GMT (UK)  »
Hello, I have worked on Griffiths online and the Valuation Revisions - very useful. But is it possible to see online the PRONI records for:

VAL/2/B Field Books - see information in more detail (also A, C, D)
VAL/2/B/5/24B and 24C for Tamlaght Finlagan?

Or do you need to visit PRONI in Belfast or pay a researcher to look?

Thankyou

Derry (Londonderry) / Abbreviations in North Ireland records
« on: Monday 29 January 18 08:47 GMT (UK)  »
I am trying to find out what "Ned" means. I encountered on Griffiths - "William Moore (Ned)". Later  I read people's nicknames were often in brackets. Now on a marriage record I have come across "Mr James Con Creswill, Nedd, to Anne......".

William above is in other records and Ned doesn't appear nor is he referred to as William Edward Moore.

Can anyone advise what it might mean, please?

Derry (Londonderry) / James Ogilby of Limavady
« on: Friday 12 January 18 07:19 GMT (UK)  »
Hello, can anyone, please, advise birth and death dates and a little information between for James Ogilby of Limavady who leased out a lot of the townlands of Carrowclare and Carrowreagh per Griffiths 1858.  And when ownership of these lands passed out of the hands of the Ogilby family and to whom. I understand the Olgilvy/Ogilby family purchased from the McCauslands (Wm McC died 1729) who followed or co-existed with the Conolly family who in 1697 purchased the Manor of Limavady from the Phillips family.

I am tracking the Moore family/families of Carrowreagh and Carrowclare from late 1600s to about 1890 and they rented lands from James Ogilby in 1858 Griffiths.

I tried googling but nothing much about James and dates not given.

Thankyou, Marilyn

Oxfordshire / James Long and Sarah Busby
« on: Wednesday 19 April 17 01:30 BST (UK)  »
I am trying to identify the James LONG who married Sarah BUSBY on 11 Oct 1792 in Standlake parish, Oxfordshire.

In many trees he has been identified as James son of George LONG and Elizabeth WARD christened on 23 May 1768 in Standlake Parish.

However, according to the Standlake parish register James Long son of George and Elizabeth died 25 Aug 1769. These two records are on the same double page image of the register along with the birth of James' younger brother Thomas chr. 02 July 1769. Maybe James' death has been attributed to Thomas.

If the register is correct then the wrong James Long is attributed as marrying Sarah Busby on 11 Oct 1792 at Standlake (there is a marriage earlier in Oct 1792 for a James Long and Sarah Busby elsewhere in Oxfordshire). From 1795 there is a series of children of James and Sarah Long chr. in Standlake (2) and the remainder in Shifford.

A possible James Long would be his cousin, son of George's brother William chr. 1737 and married 1761 to Ann Ed(g)ington. Their son James was chr. 1765 at Hanborough. George Long's Will 1788/Probate 1789 is on the OFHS site.

Would anyone have researched these people and be able to advise?

I am descended from Solomon Long chr. 8 Sep 1805 in Shifford son of James Long and Sarah (Busby).

United States of America / The Moore family in the USA
« on: Saturday 14 January 17 03:39 GMT (UK)  »
Has anybody researched a Moore family in the USA which went from Co Derry (Lough Foyle area) in the 1700s to places such as Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire and also New Brunswick in Canada.

Also a Tristram Moore of Chester County in Pennsylvania whom I first find in Tax Records of 1764. Was he from Ireland? Are there 2 by this name - father and son (born about 1750) or only one. There was a Captain Tristram / Trussy Moore in the 1777-1783 American Revolutionary War and I am trying to find where he came from.

In New Brunswick Canada is a William Moore with son Tristram Moore at Moores Mills. Did William come from Ireland? Tristram was born 1780 in New Hampshire.

I would greatly appreciate any information on these 2 families. I have some information from Ancestry and FindMyPast but it doesn't answer my questions above.

Thankyou.

The Common Room / John Vickery Bow Street police officer 1799-1822
« on: Monday 13 June 16 00:28 BST (UK)  »
Has anyone researched John Vickery, Bow Street police officer 1799-1822. I am trying to build a picture of his life in connection with his son or adopted son Christopher Brown otherwise Vickery who came to Australia in early 1820s.

I would like to verify I have correct details of his birth and marriage and ascertain if he married a second time.
