Ancestral Family Tree DNA Testing / No paper trail
« on: Thursday 19 May 16 01:24 BST (UK)  »
My grandfather was a runaway. We do not have any reliable record of his parents names. There is no paper trail to follow.
My father is willing to do a DNA test, would the y chromosome test be the best place to start?
Ancestry vs Ftdna, are they essentially the same? Is the cost the difference?

The more I read the more overwhelming it all becomes.
Thanks for any advice,
Donna.

I am wondering was there such a place as "Woodlands" County Kerry? One of my ancestors claimed to have been born there, but Google only recognises a camp ground and B & B.
Any help is greatly appreciated,

Anglesey Lookup Requests / William Evans b 1829 Anglesey
« on: Sunday 15 March 15 11:36 GMT (UK)  »
I am searching for information of the family of William Evans and Ellen Owens, Anglesey. I am searching with clues of information, nothing concrete like the name of a town! I would appreciate any information and/or help, as it may help me to connect the dots.

William Evans was born Anglesey, 1829.
Parents: William Evans, miner and  Ellen/Ellin Owens

He was apparently British Merchant Seaman ? year of apprenticeship

Arrived in Australia in 1850's as ships crew.
Worked within Australian waters for a time before officially emigrating 1858 taking government position ?customs boat Williamstown, Melb.

Married, Geelong, Vic. Children's names (which may be family names) - first born Thomas, second Mary Ellen, (spouse's mother recorded as Mary), William James, Kathrine Elizabeth (spouse Irish lass, Catherine/Kathrine), and Henry.

On his death certificate in 1885, beside the details of his father is a notation, 10/7/83 which may imply the date of his fathers death. (wish I could see how to attach)  there is also a name ?town next to date) ?Arle ?Aile

Caernarvonshire Lookup Requests / William Evans (b 1829 Bangor)
« on: Sunday 08 March 15 02:25 GMT (UK)  »
I am trying to trace my Welsh ancestry and I would be most obliged for some help. William Evans emigrated to Australia, he was born 1829 North Wales, parents William Evans, miner, and Ellen Owens. On some of his children's birth cert's it is recorded that William was born in Anglesey, North Wales, and on some it's recorded he was born in Bangor, North Wales. It looks like these two places are quite different, could it be that these two places were part of the same parish? Thank you for your consideration,
Donna.
