Family History Programs, Tree Organisation, Presentation / Family Tree Maker 2017 - worth paying to upgrade?

After an enforced break from my genealogical research I now find my Family Tree Maker 2014 programme no longer syncs with Ancestry. I’m a bit miffed that they want £59.99 to upgrade to FTM2017, especially as it appears the programme is no longer fully supported by Ancestry.
Is it worth paying for this upgrade or should I buy different software? I don’t want to pay out for FTM2017 if it’s lifespan is already limited. Thank you.  : )

Lancashire / 1882 supplement contains information on Liverpool sailor's widows & families

This 1882 supplement of the Ann Molyneaux Charity, gives interesting information on some 66 needy Liverpool families. They appear to be the widows and families of deceased mariners.
I hope it is of interest and use.  :)

Technical Help / Duplicate entries on Ancestry

I have somehow managed to duplicate a line on my Ancestry tree. I've dealt with most of it but 2 entries are left and I'm not certain if I should just delete these or merge them. If I merge the two Amos Freed entries will that restore the tree? The fact sources are the same for both. The rogue entries are ringed in red, the correct pair are to the right, ticked green. I expect this is a ridiculously simple task but I'll be grateful for guidance please. Thank you. :)

1/ The baptism of Henry PACKMAN, 26 Nov 1758. Parents Thomas and Elizabeth.
2/ The marriage of Henry PACKMAN and Mary FRYER, 9 Apr 1787 or 4 Sep 1787.

This is Hilda Turner of Dartford, Kent. The photograph was taken in 1931 when she was 19. Please will somebody add colour? Her eyes were grey/blue in colour. Hair dark brown. Thank you so much.  :)
The original photo is rather blurred so I can't provide a sharper image, sorry.

Kent Lookup Requests / Minster in Sheppey marriage 1819 - FREED / BATES

Does anyone have access to the Minster in Sheppey marriage registers please? I am interested in the marriage of Henry FREED to Mary Ann BATES which took place there on 14th June 1819. I am told that there is a note written in the register's margin next to this marriage and I am hoping this note will lend a clue to Mary Ann's origins. The note does not appear in any transcripts of the register.

Photograph Resources, Tips, Tutorials / Can anyone recommend a good 35mm slide scanner please?

Please can somebody recommend an easy to use 35mm slide scanner that gives good results? We have hundreds of mounted slides from the 60s and 70s that need scanning to digital format. There are so many scanners on the market from as little as £30 and I am confused as to which is the sensible one to go for. Any advise will be very much appreciated. Thank you. Graham :)
