Tyrone / Neill/Livingston - Aughnacloy
« on: Tuesday 28 April 20 00:22 BST (UK)  »
i am posting for an elderly friend who has done a lot of work on his family tree but this branch has always stumped him.  As he is now in palliative care, I want to see if I can make a breakthrough for him.

His great-grandmother was Margaret Neill who was born in Glenkeen on January 7, 1857, and baptized at St. James Church in Aughnacloy on February 8, 1857 by Rev. T.G. Stokes.  Her parents are noted as Thomas Neill & Bessie Livingston.  She marries William John Boyle on 8 September 1882 at St. Anne's Shankill Belfast.  She died in 1930.

We believe she had a brother Alexander who was born in the early 1860s (before civil registration) and who appears later in Belfast, where Thomas shows up in the 1911 census before he passes in 1915.  Alex marries Alice Starrett on July 7, 1894 at St. Anne's. He died in 1951.

He's never been able to find any other additional information about Thomas and Bessie, although I believe Margaret was born in Glenkeen, Aghaloo Parish where there are a couple of Livingston families (so the wife's parish), but that's about all.

I cannot find Thomas in the 1901 census for a start, and although I can find Alex in the Belfast directories in the 1890s and beyond, no sign of Thomas, and he is not living with Alex in the 1901 census.

I know any tidbit of info about Thomas and Bessie would really bring some joy to my friend.

Armagh / Wilson - Derrylee
« on: Thursday 17 October 19 14:09 BST (UK)  »
Ever since I began the research into my husband's family some 20 years ago, I knew that his 2nd great-grandfather was Alexander Wilson, born about 1790, died 1864 in Derrylee.  His wife, Mary, died in 1890.  Their youngest son, Elijah, was the informant.  I have lots of information on their children, but it is Mary's maiden name, and Alexander's parents who have eluded me.  Alexander lived next door to Joseph Wilson whom I believe to be his brother given DNA matches -- could however be a cousin.  If anyone has any thoughts as to how I can determine Mary's maiden name and/or Alexander's parents, I'd be grateful for the information.

Note that I have cross-posted to Ancestry's Ontario Board.

I'm looking for the death registration of a Lillian May Jones who died in Welland in April 1942.  This date is based on an index entry for an obit in the Welland newspaper which appeared on May 1, 1942.  Any help in getting the death registration would be appreciated.  Thanks.

Down / McPhee/McAfee - Neill (Donaghcloney)
« on: Monday 16 January 17 19:12 GMT (UK)  »
The marriage of Henry McAfee (McPhee) and Eliza Neill took place on 28 September 1845 in Donaghcloney (registered in Lurgan).  The oldest child that I know about is an Alice McPhee, who says she was born in Co. Armagh about 1854, so I suspect there were a few born between 1846 and 1853 that are unaccounted for.  Does anybody have access to the parish records that could have a look? Given that the parish borders Armagh, it's not surprising that the marriage was registered in Lurgan, so they may have lived in a townland on or near the border as well.

Northamptonshire / Betson - Wellingborough
« on: Saturday 27 February 16 00:56 GMT (UK)  »
William Betson was born in 1822 in Wellingborough and died in 1903 in Ontario. He was the son of Nathaniel Betson and Sarah Pomeroy who were married December 6, 1818.  I have not been able to find any information about Nathaniel's parents.  Nathaniel was non-conformist which may be part of the problem.

How to Use RootsChat (Please don't post requests here) / Text in Profile -- SOLVED

Why does the text "Census information Crown Copyright, from www.nationalarchives.gov.uk" appear under my username?  I have just joined the group and posted my first response. There doesn't seem to be any place in the profile section to make changes.
