« on: Monday 29 October 07 16:35 GMT (UK)  »
my grandad was at the Naval College in Greenwich  from about 12/3 yrs old in the late 1920's.
Does anyone know why he would have been sent there or where i can obtain any records from.
I have his service record from 1933 onwards but nothing to do with the college,

Hampshire & Isle of Wight / can anyone help me find Arthur(Portsea)
« on: Tuesday 26 June 07 18:11 BST (UK)  »
I'm trying to locate the birth of my ggg grandfather Arthur John Davis born about 1845/50 in Portsea.

i have him on the 1881 census but none previous to that.on 1881 he says he was born in Landport,Portsea but i can find nothing when searching the registers.
On his marriage cert it says his father is Edward David Davis and he was in the Navy. I 've searched for areas other than Portsea but nothing.......can anyone help point me in another direction to try to help find him.

I've also searched baptisms in Portsmouth but again a blank,

thanks in advance for any help,

Gloucestershire Lookup Requests / records office look up please (clifton area)
« on: Friday 06 January 06 14:55 GMT (UK)  »
If anyone is visiting the records office for Clifton area could you please look up a baptism for Ambrose Wallis born 1872 and Hester Wallis born 1871.the parents would be William Wallis and Sarah Wallis (formally Young).
also could you look for a marriage between Sarah and William and a death for Sarah.

I cant find either William  on any census apart from 51,61 and possibly 01.i can't find a marriage for them so i'm guessing they weren't which makes it really hard to know where to go next regarding Sarah,

please help :'( :'( :'(

Wicklow / Timmons family of Wicklow----- UPDATED 27/10/07
« on: Thursday 17 November 05 15:50 GMT (UK)  »
Hi,

wondering if anyone has any info or connections with the Timmons family from Wicklow.I'm not sure where but at one point they lived in Greystones.I'd always know my  grandmother name as Frances but info found suggests she might have been named Sarah, she was born around 1901,

UPDATE 27/10/07

i now believe that my grandmother,Frances, had a nephew called John Timmons that played Gaelic football.Johns father may have been Timothy Timmons but this is not a definite.

Among some of my uncles things was a death notice for Laurence Timmons(d.1956).It mentions his wife Julia and their daughters. It says that Laurence is buried in Glendalough cemetery.I have no idea how these Timmons would be connected to mine......i'm only assumings that they do because my uncle had kept the death notice.

any help would be really good,
Thanks,
Karen

« on: Friday 04 November 05 11:39 GMT (UK)  »
can anyone give me tips/ideas on where i go to look for the elusive William Wallis.

he was born in Portsea in 1843.his parents were James and Hester Wallis.i have William on1861 but can't find him on 71,81 or 91.i have him in 1901 as William Wallace living in Portsmouth Workhouse. in 1872 William had a son Ambrose in Bristol but in 1881 Ambrose is in Portsmouth living with an aunt.
William  was married to Sarah Young but again i can't find their marriage on the registers.someone has searched the address given on Ambroses birth cert for 1871 but they weren't there then.

i am tearing my hair out as i just don't know where to look next.
i have searches Wallis,Walliss,Wallace,Wollis and as many variations as i can think of but nothing...Help
