Hi Everyone ... I wonder if some could assist me with this please?

I have found the Sarum entry on 5 Sept 1831 and the Marriage entry 12 September 1831 for Sarah Wheeler and John Smith (I can hear you groaning) ... but I am unable to trace Sarah's family.

Unfortunately, she died in 1858 so I only have the 1841 and 1851 census to go on for her YOB and POB.

On the 1841 census, she is shown as being born in Corsham circa 1811.  On the 1851 she is shown as being born 1803 in Devizes.

On another site, someone suggested she could have been born in Southbroom, and there is an entry there .. there is also an entry in Southbroom for a Cicely Wheeler, and this is the name she also gave to one of her children (not too common so I thought a good indication of carrying names on) ... but this Cicely seems to be living in Somerset in 1841 - but it doesn't rule out not being Sarah's Sister).

i wonder if anyone has access to the Marriage entries that may show her Fathers name please ?  It would be a start to help me narrow down the possibilities for her ....

Many Thanks for any help, or suggestions.

I'm not sure if this is the right board to post this on .... but due to the common Surname (and Christian names) ... I wonder if anyone on this brilliant board is linked to this line please?

John is the Brother of my GGF (James Smith) who, like John, moved from Kington to South Wales for the mining work.

Please delete if not appropriate, but here's hoping ....

I wonder if there is anyone that visits the RO regularly that would be willing to do a quick look up for a newspaper entry for me please?  I know the date of the accident and death, so there wouldn't be much hunting .... :-\

Somerset / STROOD / Woolavington
« on: Tuesday 15 March 16 17:29 GMT (UK)  »
I wonder if someone could check a baptism for me please?

I have an MC for Julia Hooper to Richard Burrows in Woolavington 1858.  It only shows them both as "of full age".  Julia's Father is shown as John Hooper (Labourer).

I've found a John Hooper (1806) Wife Hannah (1816) with children that would make Hannah way too young to have given birth.  I know the dates of birth are rounded up/down on the 1851 census and have found a Marriage entry for a Hannah STROOD  to John Hooper 25/4/1826 - this date would tie in with the YOB shown for the children on the census .... but not her YOB

I can't find a baptism entry for a Hannah Strood in Woolavington (or Somerset) that would fit/tie in ... ???

HELP please ?

Hi

I wonder if someone could help me locate one, Richard John Burrows on the 1911 census, please ?

I have access, but just can't find him ...   ???

Richard John Burrows, born 1889  Ystradyfodwg.
Parents are Thomas and Sarah Jane Burrows.
Siblings (that I have been able to find - still missing 7)
Anne (1885), Sam (1890), Elizabeth (1892), Edgar (1896), David Charles (1899), Trevor (1901), Idris (1904) & Sidney (1908)

According to the 1911 census there were 16 children in total,  :o and by 1911, 6 of them had died.

Richard married Blanch Davies in 1912.

Many Thanks, in advance

Devon / help with a marriage pse - Maunder
« on: Saturday 13 February 16 17:56 GMT (UK)  »
OK .. My Edwin Daniel Maunder (Blacksmith) .. he was born 1818 in Littleham.  I have found his birth/baptism entry, which says his Parents are John Maunder and Elizabeth.

I have Edwins MC now, and his Fathers occupation, like Edwin's, was a Blacksmith.

Now, I have John Maunder on the 1851 census, but now married to an Ann.  As there is a Step-Daughter also living with them, mistranscribed, I have found a possible (probable) 2nd Marriage for John Maunder to an Ann WHITE in St Thomas (Littleham) in 1839

There is a death of an Elizabeth Maunder in 1837 in St Thomas ... another DC to apply for ... (I will be bankrupt soon - 9 arrived today)

I need some help with the marriage of John Maunder to Elizabeth .... who?

There is an entry for Elizabeth BULLED in 1816 in Witheridge ... which would fit with Edwin's birth year .. I've not accounted for any siblings yet ....

opinions, advise and assistance would be much appreciated ... Diolch

London and Middlesex / rubbish at geography ... Wandsworth
« on: Sunday 07 February 16 14:31 GMT (UK)  »
???  I have found a Great Aunt living in the Wandsworth Union Infirmary (Workhouse Infirmary) on the 1911 census.
Her Daughter died in 1912 and her POD is shown as Wandsworth - and there is a death that fits her Mother, Ellen too in 1912, but the registration district is shown as Uxbridge - do you think this could be her, please?
Ellen Weeks (nee Vigers) - born 1845 Exmouth - her POB is incorrectly transcribed as DERBY on the census, but it's clearly Exmouth on the original.
Many Thanks

Devon / Asylum records
« on: Saturday 06 February 16 19:55 GMT (UK)  »
Good Evening .... can someone please point me in the right direction of accessing the "Devon County Lunatic Asylum" records please?
Specifically for Mary Maunder, born 1849, Exmouth. She lives with her Mother up until her death and the on the 1891 and 1901 census Mary's shown as a "lunatic" ... I think I might get the DC out of interest.
Thanks

Devon / Viger / Sedgemore
« on: Friday 05 February 16 11:29 GMT (UK)  »
Nellie Vigers (1887-1919) married Thomas H Sedgemore (1886-1951).  They had a Daughter, Kathleen M Sedgemore (b 1913 in St Thomas).
I have been able to find a Marriage entry in 1939 to a Charlie Speed in Plymouth, and a possible death for him in 1971 on the Isle of Wight - I can't find anything for her at all.
I don't know if they divorced and she remarried as there are a few possible remarriage options in Portsmouth from 1940 (although I believe they lived in Plymouth)

A bit bizarre, but the only other link I can find with the IoW for this family is Kathleen's Maternal Aunt (Alice Maud Dewdney (nee Vigers) died there in 1970.

I don't think they had children, unless the surnames have been mistranscribed into oblivion .... (and I am not even entertaining the 1939 census for his reason ...)

I am related to the Vigers side ... but exploring all avenues ....
