Lancashire / Hettie Riley born 1883
« on: Sunday 27 November 22 18:23 GMT (UK)  »
I would like some help to identify Hettie who is living with Robert Clarke in 1921 in Rochdale, together with their daughter Elsie Clarke Hunt.
Census says Hettie Hunt, widow , age 38 years 3 months born Rochdale, cardroom hand out of work.
Elsie age 4 yrs 2 months born Heywood. Birth index says mothers maiden name Riley ,registered Elton ,Bury.
Robert Clarke born 5 Oct 1887 is my grandmas brother and has left his wife Ada.
I can't find Robert or Hettie in 1939 but Elsie is l think living at 92 Heywood St Bury and later marries Bernard Spring in 1940.
Thanks Sue

Cumberland / Late 1700s Maryport Thompson/Cragg(on)family
« on: Sunday 26 September 21 21:00 BST (UK)  »
For many years I have been looking for the family of Hannah Thompson born around 1790 .She is my great great great grandma. Unfortunately a very common name but I would be grateful if anybody has any suggestions about this Hannah born in Maryport.
Hannah Thompson baptised Maryport 16 August 1789 daughter of John Thompson and Hannah Croggan.
Possible sister Sarah daughter of John Thompson, mariner and Hannah Cragg baptised March1792.Maryport.
Brother John born about 1795 in Maryport. No baptism found.
Only marriage found so far John Thompson carpenter of Cartmel to Hannah Cragg at Heversham in 1784.Their 1st Child Ann born Field End Preston Richard April 1784 at home of Hannah's father John Cragg. Baptised at Heversham .no more baptisms found around here.

Hannah (1789) has an illegitimate child Robert born 1808 at Endmoor, baptised at Preston Patrick.
1841 Hannah a dressmaker ,still unmarried is living at Stainton near Kendal next door to John and Elizabeth Thompson and family. Census says not born in county.
1851 she is a visitor at home of her son Robert in Kendal .Census says she is born at Grayrigg like all his children. Unmarried age 61.
1856 Hannah age 68 dies Blackburn at Roberts home.
By mid 1840s John Thompson (putative brother) has moved to Grayrigg (Lambrigg) and in all censuses from 1851 to 1891 states his birthplace as Maryport.
Any suggestions welcome.

New Zealand Completed Requests / John Thompson boot and shoemaker
« on: Sunday 07 June 20 21:11 BST (UK)  »
John Thompson born Grayrigg (Kendal) Westmorland 1838 and family go missing in England after the 1861 census when he is a Boot and shoemaker in St Bees Cumberland. He has a wife Sarah( Burrows) born 1835 and 2 year old son James Burrows Thompson both born in Blackburn ,Lancashire. There are no more children born in England.
Next found on sons wedding cert .when he married Slany Dalton in Wellington 25 Dec 1883 where it says father John lives in Nelson. I 've found adverts for him as Bootmaker in Nelson through out 1882.and he wants an apprentice in 1884. Next mentioned when his son is bankrupt in 1897 and says that it's because he lent his father money to become a hop farmer 8 or 9 years before and he's never got it back.
Is there anyway to find John and family arriving in New Zealand or where they lived. I know son James B. died 1904 in Wellington.
Any suggestions welcome. Thanks Sue

familysearch transcription shows his mother Nancy as Dukesell (should be Cockerill )and his (step) brother Joseph as Hewatt (should be Cockerill or Howarth)
And presumably places of birth should be Hundersfield. They were born around Syke.
Thanks Sue
