Durham / Searching for former childrens hospital near Eaglescliffe, Co. Durham
« on: Thursday 01 October 15 19:39 BST (UK) »
Hello everyone, and welcome to my first post,
In 1958 I was 7 years old and living in Eaglescliffe, Co Durham. I contracted Rheumatic Fever that year and was taken to a children's hospital in the Stockton area where I was kept for about 7 weeks.
I am now in the process of writing my life story and would dearly like to know where this hospital was located. I do remember clearly it was on a sloping site, with operating theatres at the bottom of the slope and single story wards at the top. A main road ran to one side of the site with a sheer drop from the ward windows to the pavement below (about 50 feet I guess).
So far I have spent hours searching for any traces on Google Earth, and local websites with no luck. I suspect it may have been a workhouse and was converted at some stage, then closed down.
Can anyone help out - please?
