Family History Beginners Board / Cavanaghs

Hi 
I'm in South Africa. My grandmother was Gladys Louise Cavanagh born 1895 (can't find place of birth).
The only record of her and her family being here is her marriage certificate (to Donald Alroy Bradfield) wherein I (yay finally) found the name of her parents: William and Agnes Cavanagh.
My problem: I can't find where they are from (in Ireland). I think the records of their birth/marriage may have been destroyed.
My father says his grandfather came out here to work on the railways.. there is no verification of that, that I can find. Sigh. Thank you for listening. Besides saving for airfare to Ireland and doing a "foot search"
